The jolt of the ship stopping caused you to trip forward. You grappled the railing, to save your fall.
"You alright there girly?" Your grandfather asked, making his way down the deck."Yes, grandpa. Are you ready?" You ask a question, you undoubtably knew the answer to. Your nose crinkles holding back your laugh, at your grandpas matching safari getup. He even had the hat.
"Of course." He said cheerfully, adjusting his bag.
"Did you put on sunscreen?"
"Yes."
"Bug spray?"
"Mmhm."
"Water, in that big canister I gave you?"
"Uh-huh." You sighed.
"What about your walkie-talkie?"
"Oh, no." You pretend to act dumbfounded, making him frown.
"No? I tell you to carry that at all times! I charged it the whole night and I even gave you the extra batteries so you don't-"
"Grandps." You hush him, with a snicker in your voice.
"I'm just joking. If anything, I'm over prepared." you pulled out the small device and wagged it around. His shoulders loosened in relief.
"Don't worry about me, our main focus is examining the mangani great apes."
"I just want to assure you keep you safe. But I suppose your right, i've been here once but we are wandering unfamiliar grounds." He and you both looked over to the island before you.It was your first time in this specific coastal jungle area, and it took your breath away at the view you had.
Glossy leaves of trees flopped, fruits blossomed, and the sand cascaded the shores.
The small breeze whizzing tasted truly purified.
" I have to go and direct the boys where to set up camp. Gather your belongings and meet me off the boat."
He tells you and you nod catching most of his words.
You were curious about something and you figured the moment would be a great time to ask your grandfather, while he wasn't busy.
"The stories about the boy." You stared, and he turns to look at you with confusion.
"The ghost in the trees." You continue, and his face unfrazzles.
"Oh yes, you remember! Jared Leto, is his birth name. He must be far older then a boy now." He looks joyful.
"I thought you were making them up, you haven't spoken about him since I was little." You were kindling so much excitement it was almost scary.
Your grandfather always told you about this boy abandoned in the jungle. As a baby he belonged to a wealthy family but they were killed and somehow he was the only survivor.
Explorers claimed to have saw him, but no one ever could catch him.
Your grandfather shared with you his theories growing up. He believed that he was raised by the mangani apes you both studied, and has the ability to communicate and other animals in the jungle.
Though it seemed very impossible, your still had a gleam of hope you'd see him somehow.
"Now (y/n/n), I might've discovered a lot, but I'm not that peculiar to make up what I've seen."
