An inch. A breath.
That was the distance between our lips when Sae Ron's quirky neighbour decided to destroy the moment.
Just why am I so damn lucky?!
The moment Sae Ron heard her voice, she jolted away from me as though an alarm had gone off inside her brain. Her doe eyes widened momentarily and she locked herself inside the bathroom at the speed of light. Before I could properly blink, Sae Ron slammed the door in my face and disappeared from my sight once again.
And here I am now, standing like a fool right outside her bathroom as Soeun noona comes in, smiling like she just saved the world or something. Keeping myself from frowning seems much harder than I would've thought.
"Jungkook-ssi, what are you doing over there? Did Sae Ron come out?" She asks calmly. Everything happened so fast that she probably didn't see the two of us together. Phew.
"Ani....aniya, she didn't." Walking across the small room, I settle myself on the couch while Sae Ron's unnie sits on the bed. She glances at the bathroom once, a quizzical look on her face. "That girl is taking too long in the shower. I wonder what she's doing," she mutters.
If only you had interrupted us a minute earlier, you would've seen exactly what she was doing; or rather what we were doing. I think to myself, the corner of my lips slightly lifting up at the thought of almost kissing Sae Ron.
"By the way, Jungkook-ssi, mianhamnida. I had to rush off to my house right after inviting you in. I had to take the call. It was important," she says, sporting a coy smile. I shake my head immediately. "It's absolutely fine, Soeun noona. I came at a wrong time anyway. I just wanted to check up on Sae Ron since she took a sick leave."
Her expression changes all of a sudden. Giving me a sheepish look, she says, "That's so nice of you, Jungkook-ssi. I was wondering.....if you show this kind gesture towards all your employees, or maybe Sae Ron is special?"
Her questioning gaze freezes me for a moment.
How am I supposed to answer that? If Sae Ron hasn't told her, then it's most likely that she doesn't want Soeun noona to know anything about us. I decide not to go against my better judgement.
"Um...it's nothing like that. Since Sae Ron is my personal assistant, I really need her help at office. So I'm just making sure that she won't be absent for too long."
She gives me a knowing look, still smiling. "Ah, I see. Gomawo for taking such good care of Sae Ron." Her gaze flicks over to the bathroom, and then back to me. "I should go and check up on Sae Ron. You're a busy man after all. It will be insensitive of us to make you wait so long."
She saunters away and knocks on the bathroom door, calling Sae Ron softly. The door creaks open after a few moments as Sae Ron's face peeks from behind the door. Her eyes catch mine instantly, making her cheeks flushed. She averts her gaze and so do I.
She whispers something to Soeun noona in a hushed voice and shuts the door again. Without saying anything, noona slowly opens the top drawer of a medium-sized wardrobe, takes out some clothes and knocks on the bathroom door again. Sae Ron opens the door and takes the clothes in a flash of an eye.
I watch the two of them curiously as everything starts to sink in gradually.
That girl didn't take any clothes inside to wear after shower.
I almost laugh out loud. Sae Ron really is a pabo. My pabo.
"Jungkook-ssi," Soeun noona brings me out of my reverie. "Sae Ron will be out in a minute. In the meantime, will you take anything? Coffee? Whatever you like."
