§ Sae Ron §

I know I'm in deep trouble.

I'm already mortified due to the fact that Jungkook's appa, Mr. Jeon Junghyuk, is well aware of my current position in his company. What if he just caught a glimpse of how close Jungkook and I were a moment ago? I'm starting to feel nauseous just thinking about it.

Gathering my remaining bits of sanity, I bow in a right angle and greet him. "Annyeonghaseyo."

I catch a smile tugging at his lips. But it's not the kind of smile that gives you relief; it's the kind that makes you even more nervous than you already are, makes your stomach knot in apprehension of what's coming. I gulp silently as he speaks up, "Uh, Kim Sae Ron. It's nice to see you again. I heard you're working as Jungkook's assistant?"

There it is. The edge in his tone. The clear indication that he doesn't approve. Swallowing the lump in my throat, I reply, "Ne."

I feel Jungkook stiffen beside me and he takes a menacing step towards his appa. "Why are you even bothering yourself with this?! Whether she works as my assistant or something else is not your business. So, just stay out of it."

"Uh, my son, always ahead of the topic. I'm not here to interrogate Sae Ron. I just wanted to meet her. Your omma said you two were dancing in the middle. But you were not there. So I searched for the two of you and here you are," he says, placing his hand over Jungkook's shoulder.

Jungkook jerks his hand off. "I still don't see why someone like you would feel the need to meet Sae Ron. Honestly, you should just mind your own business."

I can spot the rage in his appa's eyes as he grits his teeth. "Jeon Jungkook, are you forgetting that you're talking to your father right now?"

"Not yet, but I'm about to," is the answer he gets from his son. "Now, if you'll excuse us," Jungkook grabs my wrist and starts walking away from his father, dragging me along with him. The sharp gaze of Mr. Jeon burning into our intertwined hands lets me know that I'm not done here.

I don't fight Jungkook this time, knowing that although unaware of my dilemma, he's unknowingly holding back my conversation with his appa which I so badly want to escape. Jungkook had never been in good terms with his father. But now it appears that the bitterness in their relationship has only intensified during the time of my absence.

He comes to a halt when he sees his omma approach us. "Jungkook! Sae Ron! Where have you been? I was starting to think that you two ditched the party and went somewhere else," she says at a stretch.

"Now that you mention it, that's actually a good idea. We should've just left this stupid party," Jungkook retorts, still frowning like a baby, but I can tell from the look in his eyes that his anger has pretty much cooled off. But wait, why was he angry actually?

Could it be because.....our moment together was ruined? And I didn't give him the answer he wanted?

I don't probe into it too much but a small smile graces my lips when I realize that he's still holding my hand. The smile transforms into a blush when I see ajumoni noticing the same.
"Yah, Jungkook, I thought you said Sae Ron is not your friend? Why are you holding her hand then?" She raises a brow at him, as if teasing him.

Surprisingly, Jungkook still doesn't let go of my hand. Instead, he says, "I'm taking that back. Sae Ron," his eyes meet mine, "is more than just a friend to me."

His omma lets out a squeal. "Omo! I knew it! I knew you liked her. I was right from the start!" Her grin grows wider and for the first time, I find Jungkook smiling back at her. I don't know what caused him to drift apart from ajumoni but I can't be more relieved that he's gradually warming up to her.
