Everything was cloudy and white. I was in the house with everyone; Lily, Mother, Lina and Father. We all looked alive and happy. It was like it always was.

Lily was dressed in a bright floral dress. Her dark eyes sparkled like the evening sky. Her jet black hair swooshed as she walked towards me.

"I love you, Malika! I will do anything and everything to keep you safe, my sister!" she smiled.

I tried to speak, but I couldn't with a lump in my throat. I hugged her tighly. I was so happy.

Cement floors, bloody walls and red sun. It was just a nightmare.

"So this is how you're going to torture me?!" I cried. Lucy walked in and stood in front of me proudly.

"That was only the beginning." she giggled. She turned to Lily's cell. "Okay, time to make yourself useful. Get up!"

Lily weakly got to her feet. Lucy yanked her out of the cell so hard it looked like her arm would fall off.

"Where are you taking her?" I screamed.

Lucy dramatically glanced at me. "Hey, I'm just giving her what she asked for!"

I tried to reach for Lily's hand but the bars burnt my arm again. You'd have thought I'd learnt my lesson by then.

Gasping in pain, I watched Lily leave. Everything was silent. Eerily silent. I didn't trust it. That's when I heard Lucifer's wicked laugh and Lily's first scream.

I couldn't imagine what they could be doing to a soul that could cause such pain. Her weeps were as loud as thunder in an angry storm. It really was torture, because I couldn't help her. She was the reason we all ended up in this mess. She was the reason Mother and Lina died; her selfishness!

Lily was in agony for hours. I wouldn't even look at her when she returned.

A clear memory. It was a Monday afternoon. I was in my room, studying. Father walked in and sat next to me.

"How's the studying going?" he asked.

"Good... I just don't understand how people could be so cruel. Did you know that slaves in the American south were whipped when they misbehaved?" I cried.

"No!" Father said, pretending to be surprised. He laughed and pulled me into a hug.

"I'm going to work soon." he sighed.

"Father, you're always working! One day we're all going to die and you won't be here because you're working!" I ranted.

"Honey, whether I die or you die, we can always meet in heaven."

I smiled and hugged him before he went to greet Lily. Then he left, and never came back.
