After throwing her things down in the sand, I slip off my shoes as I watch my wife undress under the light of the moon.
My eyes never leave her as I pull my shirt over my head and throw the rest of my clothes in the sand by our feet.
"Did you miss me?" She asks, walking towards me as I walked backwards towards the water.
"I'm allowed to, aren't I?" She shrugs.
"I just wondered. That's all. I'm allowed to wonder aren't I?" The smirk on her face makes me smile.
"Stop copying me"
She pushes at my chest hard, and after not expecting it, I fall back into the water.
"Don't tell me what to do" She kicks at the water and splashes me as I block my face from the shower.
I wrap a leg around hers and pull her towards me so I can hold her like I used to. Before everything changed. Before we got Brixton. Before we could kiss at night and make love without being interrupted by a baby crying. Now we could do none of that.
Part of me missed my freedom with her. The other part was thankful for what I had.
I wrap an arm around her waist, and she wraps hers around my neck as she lays into me and let's me keep her above water.
This is what I liked about her that would never changed. She liked to rely on me. She liked to give herself up and let me hold her.
"We need this regularly, Mike. Between you working and me staying at home with Brixton, we never get time with each other. Maybe Mom wouldn't mind babysitting a few Saturday night's" I hold her closer and brush her hair away from her neck.
"Sounds good to me" She giggles and pulls away to look at me.
"Everything always sounds good to you, Mike" I smile and she kisses my lips.
"I missed you" She sighs, pulling away to wipe the water off my face.
I lean back in for another kiss and she splashes me with water.
"That wasn't very nice" I laugh, her escaping my grasp as she splashed me again and swam away.
We splash each other and I feel like a teenager again as I swim after her.
When she gets to where her feet can touch again, I pick her up and listen to her giggle my name.
Sand sticks to my feet as I carry her over to our blanket and lay her down where I watch the moon reflect in her eyes.
"Mike?" She puts a hand on the side of my face, and I raise my eyebrows in response.
She lightly slaps the side of my cheek to make me smile, and she leans up to press a kiss to my lips.
"I love you" The small gap that was between us all this time, I closed and attached our lips again.
"Love you" I mumble in between hot kisses.
I was starving for her as the minutes passed, and for the first time in weeks when I kissed her harder, I wasn't interrupted by a cry.
Tonight I could kiss harder, I could close all gaps between us, and I could watch the way her eyes changed colors from beginning to end.
"What did you want to talk about?" I ask after we lay quietly next to each other.
She looks confused at first before regaining her memory.
"Oh, right. The cabin. I wanna go back and visit. When we have time and when you're off work for a weekend, it'd be fun to take Brixton out with us" She lays next to me patiently, and I give a slow nod.
"Yeah, it sounds fun. But if we go out there, you do know that nothing's gonna be different right? It's gonna be the same thing like it is at home. We'll wake up, spend some time with the baby, and then we'll go to bed. Only to be waken up five times during the night" I look down at her, and she shrugs slowly.
"I guess. I just like it out there. Everything seems so much more peaceful, and we don't have to worry about anyone bothering us. I mean, it's technically already ours, isn't it? Why not get some use out of it?" I lay back down and stare up at the sky, trying to figure out why she was so motivated all of a sudden.
"And there's no safety issues out there"
"There aren't any safety issues where we live, either"
"There's a lake, too. And a hot tub, and a play room for Brixton when he gets older. The backyard is big enough for the dog to play and everything!" I look over at her with a chuckle.
"There's a beach ten minutes from where we live. We won't have time for a hot tub because we'll always be watching the baby, and I can make a play room at our place. And the backyard is already plenty big enough for the dog to run around" She sighs and turns towards me.
"The house is bigger. And it's beautiful" I raise an eyebrow.
"Our house is big enough. It just needs a new paint job" She frowns.
"All I'm saying is-" I finish her sentence.
"You obviously want to move out to the cabin. Am I wrong?" She shakes her head no with a smile.
"No, you're not wrong" I put an arm behind my head and close my eyes.
"Suck it up buttercup. We're staying right where we're at" She smiles at me and places a kiss on my cheek.
"We'll see" I open my eyes and shake my head.
"We won't see anything"
