CHAPTER 9

Milo was distraught as he threw open the door and pulled everyone inside. No words were exchanged as he placed Vayu down on the table and inspected his wounds.

"How did he find you?" He asked Nuri.

"We were gallivanting in the City when he located us." He admitted truthfully as Milo glared at them.

"I have told you various times to not go to the City. I am surprised the authorities did not find Vayu." He sighed, "but I am glad you are all okay. He looks fine for now, I shall examine him tomorrow. Go to sleep, it is late." Just then Meri entered the room, in royal blue pyjamas, and wiping her eye with her hand. She examined the situation and darted over to where Vayu was lying on the table.

"What happened, Nuri?" She asked.

"We were attacked." He admitted.

"By my uncle?" She asked with her fists clenched beside her.

"Yes." Nuri replied.

"This is nonsense!" She exclaimed, frustrated tears escaping from her eyes, "I can't believe my own uncle wants me dead, and he wants to kill the boy who saved me as well? Why father, I don't understand his reasoning."

"Neither do we, Meri." Avani spoke for the first time.

"It has something to do with our abilities, as Milo might have explained, the fact that we harness these abilities threaten Aziel, and of course humanity. That is why we were attacked by the Sovereign Knights as well." Nuri explained, but Avani was waving her hands behind him frantically as if she didn't want him to explain in the first place.

"The Knights attacked you as well?" Milo asked.

"Vayu was hurt and the closest place was the Magic Academy," Ignis explained.

"What were you doing in the Sovereign Capital anyway, Nuri? You all know how dangerous it is there! Especially for you and Vayu, Avani!" Milo narrowed his eyes at Avani.

"I apologise, Milo. We were only there to visit the Academy. We did not do anything else." She replied softly.

"Why did you not bring Vayu to me, you know he can only be healed by traditional healers." Milo looked to both of them.

"He was bleeding out, Milo." Ignis vouched for them, "we got out of the battle with Aziel by the skin of our teeth, Nuri could barely stand up and Avani looked faint. I made a judgement call and took them to the Academy's healer."

"Professor Juvia, yes?" Milo asked.

"Yes." Ignis answered.

"She is at least informed of Aurean traditions. It is good you took him there. Why did the Sovereign Knights attack you?" Milo reasoned.

"The Prince was meeting with Miss Magister in her office. She works for the—" Ignis began.

"Lewis Magister. I know exactly who that woman is, why you would trust her is beyond me. I am just glad you got out of there." Milo exhaled quickly.

"That makes all of us, Milo." Nuri said with a nervous laugh.

"My question still remains." Meri spoke up.

Nuri nodded, "well, to put it simply. You know we have cursed abilities, you've just never harnessed yours, correct?" She nodded, "well, I have, and that is why Aziel wants to kill you, specifically. He wants to kill you before that gene has time to mutate. He wants to kill us because we are a threat to humanity. He still believes humanity and Aureans can live together in peace."
