CHAPTER 10
"Okay, who do you think you are?" Avani blatantly asked after a while. The smirk that was previously on Ignis' face dissipated and his pupils dilated.
"Avani..." Nuri tried, but it was clear she was livid.
"No, who does he think he is?" She looked to Nuri with eyes ready to kill, "he's known me for three days and he's classifying me as some psychopathic serial killer?"
"He didn't mean..." Nuri attempted once again, but she interrupted him promptly.
"Then what was he insinuating?" She turned to Ignis with those deadly eyes, "what were you insinuating?"
"I was simply saying that you might enjoy returning to your previous profession." He said with an almost apologetic smile.
"I hated my former profession." She said matter-of-factly.
"The why did you do it?" He dared to ask.
"Because I had to, genius," she replied, "it was sort of out of gratitude toward Iman at first. I thought because my life changed so drastically when he sent me to the Academy that I was thanking him, but over time it became something I had to do. I needed money for fancy clothes to see Sein again, so I kept doing it."
"So, why not do it one last time? This time to save your people?" Ignis tried with a determined smile.
"Death isn't justifiable. It's not a noble act either. It's the worst crime someone can commit. I want nothing to do with it." She said sternly, "find an assassin who's willing."
"Vani," Vayu said, "you'll be a hero. We can go out and you won't have to worry about being captured anymore."
"I have a death toll of two-hundred and forty-five, I can't be a hero," she replied, "besides I think you're forgetting who the mass murderer is?" Vayu wouldn't answer.
"But you can try?" Ignis asked and watched as she mulled it over in her head.
"Fine," she declared, "I'll try and be a hero, but I'm not accepting responsibility for anything that happens afterward.." She directed the last part at Nuri.
"Fantastic," Ignis announced with a smile, "so, Avani," he looked to her with a playful grin, "who was the first?"
She immediately exhaled, and got up from her seat, and started walking out again.
"I was kidding!" Ignis exclaimed while he was laughing.
"Wait!" Meri looked to both of them, "I think I know what the problem is."
"Yeah, me too," Avani turned around, eyes set on Ignis, "he's testing my every nerve."
"No, not that, Avani. We don't know or trust each other enough to pull of a plan like this." Meri said.
"She's right," Nuri offered Avani an apologetic look, "it's going to require teamwork, and we're not exactly a functioning unit right now."
"Then it's settled, tonight, our room, bring snacks. We'll build trust, and get to know each other, all the while discussing our plot to assassinate Aziel Aro." Ignis said.
"That sounds reasonable." Vayu said, "I'm in."
"I'll be there." Avani said reluctantly, "I'm going to go train now, I'll see you tonight."
"After dinner!" Ignis said as she walked out the door and nodded quickly.
Dinner was fast, it went quicker than usual and before they knew it they were in Nuri and Ignis' room, munching on snacks Vayu snuck past Milo.
