CHAPTER 16

He'd been fighting non-stop for what felt like forever, but Ignis Lux wiped the stream of blood that trickled down his nose, and sucked up the pain, pulling himself up once again. He'd never thought once in his life that defeating himself would be this hard. He stood there, with his eyes black, and his smirk prominent, while he threw Ignis around the place, wherever they were, his subconscious. He bore such a resemblance to Hades that it scared Ignis pale sometimes. So much so, that his face started to morph, he'd learned quickly that this world is his to manipulate and the more muddled his thoughts got, the stronger and more psychotic he got. His eyes became a light blue colour, like Ignis' and his hair a dark brown, on he had a blue cloak, and the same cheekbones, nose, and eyes as Ignis did, but he wasn't the same. They weren't the same person, he held a dagger in his hand, and before Ignis knew it, he was staring at himself collapse, and the other him leave his corpse to rot. He didn't know if he was dead, whether he'd failed, or whether he'd simply and literally become the twisted version of himself. His surroundings changed, the Sovereign Capital appeared in front of him, the streets decorated with bright lights and apparently a dead body. The corpse laid spread out on the cobblestone streets, and the moonlight cast it in a holy sort of light. Ignis – no he – looked up, and a pair of eyes escaped from the darkness. They were green, no jade like Avani's.

"By the Mother, Kuro," the voice sighed, "you went all out, didn't you?"

Kuro-Ignis laughed, "you know me."

"Too bloodthirsty for your own good, aren't you, Hades." She said with a laugh, and stepped into the light, the moonlight soaking in her gorgeous features. Wait! I'm not thinking this about Avani, am I? Ignis wondered, and tried to rack his brains. He couldn't imagine what was going on. Who was Kuro, and why was Avani here, and why was she calling him Hades?

"It kind of has a ring to it." Kuro said, laughing, "I think Abbadōn chose wisely."

"He did, you're a crazy lunatic who likes to murder people. What's a better nickname than the King of the Underworld?" Avani's sweet laugh rung through the night air like a melodious note.

Hades, no Kuro, laughed sarcastically, "always the arsehole, aren't you Vani?" There was no doubt it was Avani he was talking to, but why the hell did Avani know Hades of all people, and how? His surroundings shifted again, this time a scene in the country. The dirt road seemed to stretch out to infinity, as he and someone walked along it. When he looked to his left, there was a person, they had short brown hair with giant spectacles and meagre looking brown eyes. There was a feeling burning in his chest, and it wasn't hatred, it was... fondness? Ignis hadn't imagined Hades could possibly feel anything else but bloodlust. A name flashed through his mind as he watched the person walk in front of him, Ciel, the sky.

"Do you really think we'll be better off in the city?" Kuro asked. Speaking was the strangest sensation, it was as if his mouth was moving but he was trying to stop the words from pouring out. He was helpless, in a body that he couldn't control.

"Can't be much worse than every single person in the village treating you like a bomb." Ciel spoke, his accent was something Ignis was used to, it sounded like home. And the more he thought about it, so did Kuro's. His accent sounded like home.

"Just as long as I keep these at bay." Kuro said, his hand lighting up with a prominent black flame, just like Ignis' could.

"It's not their fault, you know. If they could, they'd let you stay, but it's up to the higher-up's in the clan. They can't have you giving the clan a bad name." Ciel said with a soft smile.
