[MAX pov]
I wish I had as much of an intriguing story as Caroline, but I'm just a girl who's 16 and I have only one thing on my mind, and that's Caroline. I was pretty tall for a freshman two years ago, and I guess that's why I never let my guard down for any reason. I guess I was seen as 'tough' and hard to break, until I had met Caroline. Her petite features, gentle and delicate, so unlike me. I, on the other hand, tried acting cool, calm and collected, or what i like to call, the three C's, but when I noticed we were in the same science class, my face lit up with pure joy.
We had entered science and sat down together. New faces everywhere, new pairs of eyes slowly staring, judging, and seeing every move we do, ready to observe as if we were meant to be put on the spot. I had tried hard not to look all those eyes. So we sat in the back of class.
"My name is Ms. Lee and I will be your teacher for this year's science class," Ms. Lee said as she wrote her name on the whiteboard. (Again, this isn't a cliche sort with chalkboards and stuff, it's opposite of that). Within the first hour of class, we were already assigned to a project to see how much we know about space. I was thrilled. Space is one of my favorite topics. Me and Caroline were assigned partners. "So, how much do you know about space?," Caroline asked, curiously.
"If I told you, class would be done by now," I said, smirking. She laughed, a small and heartwarming laugh I never heard before. Even her laugh was as delicate as she was. "I guess we should start our project now," she said, as she began to write in her notebook and adjusting her modern spectacles. We wrote and studied all about space and I even told her facts she didn't know. We shared all of our thoughts and knowledge, relevant to space and other unrelated topics. As our periods had ended, we got our books for our lockers and headed for the bus. "Today was... interesting, don't you think Caroline?," I asked looking down at her. She nodded and gave me a slip of paper.
"There's my number, I hope we can be friends," she said. She looked so timid, like a child meeting someone new.
"But we already are friends!," I said smiling. We smiled at each other until the bus came a few minutes after. We got on, and sat together. "I call window!," I dashed to the back before she did. I accidentally bumped into her and she had fallen down. Luckily, we were the first ones to get on the bus. I quickly turned around and helped her up. I replied anxiously, "I-I'm so sorry Caroline! I...I didn't know what I was thinking. I'm such an idiot I-."
"It's fine Max just help me find my glasses." She looked up and brushed her bangs away from her face. The world had stopped right then and there. Her eyes were like dark, glass marbles, that held much hidden joy and potential. I gazed at her wide, brown eyes until I remembered that I completely pushed my new friend who probably would leave me after this. I anxiously looked around the ground and under the seats, to finally have found her glasses under another seat. I grabbed them, cleaned them, and put them on her. And just like that, her wanderlust eyes, were once again hidden behind her thick spectacles. "Again, I'm so so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you Caroli-," before I had finished that sentence, she had smiled and got up, helped me up, and hugged me. I was shocked. I had just hurt her and she greets me with acceptance and love. I had known right then and there that we would be friends for years. And that's how we are now, two years later and still together fighting against high school's everyday fucked up problems.
