I walk during the halls of school, trying to get to my locker and still get to class on time but it's a challenge with everyone else doing the exact same thing. I check my phone for the time and see that class starts in 2 minutes and realize that there is no way that I will be able to get to my locker on and then to class before it starts, since my locker is on the other side of the school from the classroom. I sigh in defeat and push my way through the wall of people, getting inside the door just before the teacher shuts the door, she literally had her hand on the handle when I squeeze inside.
"Oh, how nice of you to join us this morning miss Young" she says with a very sarcastic tone. I don't know why she's so rude, I have never been late before and I was on time today, she's probably just in a bad mood. I sit down in my seat next to Elize, who raises her eyebrow at me, asking why I'm late. I mime that I'll tell her later and she nods, as if saying okay. We then turn to the front, putting our focus the teacher.
"So, why were you late this morning? And don't say you overslept because you never do." Elize asks as soon as I get to out lunch table, I haven't even sat down yet. I roll my eyes and make myself comfortable before starting to tell her.
"Okay, so I might or might not have spent the night talking to a certain quarterback," I'm interrupted by a loud squeal which attract the people around us but Zoey glares at them making them turn back to their own business.
"Okay, so when I was so kindly interrupted I were saying that I might have talked to this quarterback for a significant number of hours, before falling asleep next to him in the sofa, forgetting to set an alarm. So, me being me did not wake up in time, obviously. However, Nate came, asking why I weren't up and when he saw that we were sleeping, looking so, I quote, in love, he obviously had to take some pictures before waking us up...." I continue to tell them how the rest of my morning was spent chasing after Nate trying to make him delete the pictures, which did not end successfully since Zach was on his side, making Nate send the pictures to him just to annoy me. It goes on with how I then had to hurry to get ready fast and how Zach took my phone and put his number in there and then put one of the pictures of us as the wallpaper of the locked screen. The story ends with how I actually managed to get to school on time, thanks to Nate dropping me off so that I would not have to find a parking space.
When I'm done they all make an awing sound and demand to see the picture to which I refuse but they all work together to fetch my phone from me. They unlock my phone, because yes they know my passcode which I'm regretting highly now, and there's a chorus of "aww", making me blush. Which apparently makes them even more happy since they tease me about it for the rest of the day.
On Thursday afternoon me and Nate eat dinner together and talk about the next day, how the game will be but mostly about how it will be to meet the family again, how they will act.
"I doubt they will do anything during the game, maybe a few glares or a comment or two from Carson, but they will not make a scene," Nate tries to comfort me.
"Yeah, I guess you're right, but what about after that? After the game? If I know them right they will seek us out and start some kind of fight, talking dirty about us and probably try to bring me home again...," I comment, shuddering a bit because I'm really not excited for tomorrow. We talk a bit more, and decide to net say anything to them if they don't do anything first and when they do talk to us, because they will, we will be calm and try to get away as soon as possible.
After chatting for some more time we decide to get a good night's sleep since Nate definitely needs it for tomorrow. When I lay in bed I think about all the shit we have actually been through, how much hate we got from our family just because we didn't cheer for the same team as them. It makes me sad how we went from a kind of happy, normal American family to a torn, almost fighting family. Sometimes I miss the happy moments we had together but I don't want to go back to it, I love life as it is now, with me and Nate living on our own, being happier than we ever were while being a whole family.
