The week passed by fast and calmly, except for a minor encounter with Sam.
I'm chatting to Alex while we're walking towards the parking lot, when I hear someone clear their throat behind me.
"Uhm," I turn around and see Sam standing there with his arms crossed and two extremely muscular guys doing the same on either side of him, trying to intimidate me, I'm assuming.
"Yeah?" I ask with a monotone voice.
"I heard my brother's taking you out Friday, is that true?" He raised his eyebrows and I laugh.
"Why do you care? 'Cause frankly, it's none of your business what me and your brother are doing...," I explain, but of course he doesn't comprehend since he continues to ask about it.
"He's my brother, of course it's my business! However, since you act so hostile about it, I'm assuming it's true," he looks like he's really proud of himself to have understood that.
"So? Why do you care?" I repeat my earlier question.
"'Cause I care for him, he's my brother ya know, I don't want him going out with the ugliest and most terrible girl in school," his friends nod in agreement but Alex, and other people in hearing distance protests.
"She's not ugly, she's hotter than you, dude!" Some guy exclaims.
"And she's the nicest person there is!" A pretty, brown-haired girl comment.
"Yeah, like what are you on, dude?" Alex asks. I smile, I'm so happy these people like me enough to defend me, not that I wouldn't have managed myself but it's nice with help sometimes, and also, it's great to have people you don't normally socialize with think you're nice. Sam, on the other hand, seems to think the opposite because he frowns before raising his eyebrows in a you-got-to-be-kidding-with-me look.
"Seriously, if anyone is on something here, it's you," he replies, in an attempt to save himself from the humiliation of being wrong.
"Nah, dude, you're just jealous she's liked and appreciated by more people than you. Like she hasn't even done anything to you, you just decided to hate her the minute you saw her sitting in your chair and not listening to you, which, honestly, just made us like her more since she's the first to ever do that, which is really courageous," a guy close to me says, people has started to close in on us.
"Me jealous? Hah, someone must have dropped you on your head when you were a kid," Sam laughs.
"Seriously, can't you just admit that you're wrong and we can all move on, this is getting boring, you know...," I tell him and I can see the crowd around us nodding in agreement, even his friends, or should I say his bodyguards. He seems to have noticed that too because he glares at them before turning to face me again.
"This is not over," and with that he turns around leaving the rest of us looking at him like he's dumb. The crowd starts to break up, people are going back to minding their own business. It takes about five seconds of being alone for me and Alex to burst out laughing.
"Oh my God, he's so dumb, like how could he not realize that he was only embarrassing himself? Like he thinks he's so threatening but he's like a little kitten trying to be a lion, minus the cuteness, of course," Alex exclaim and I can't do more than an agreeing sound due to me still laughing like a maniac.
It was the funniest thing and people have actually started to stand up a little to Cam when he does something stupid (when doesn't he, honestly?) but let's be honest, at the end of the day he will still be the king of our school. Which is great for him but not as great for the people he bullies. I'm trying to be nice to everyone because I want everyone to feel loved but sadly, not many think like that so the hierarchy of this school will never change.
Anyways, it's Friday and Zach is picking me up at 7, which is in an hour and I'm standing in the middle of my room in only underwear because I haven't decided if I want to wear jeans or a skater skirt. I decide to put on a little makeup and fix my hair before getting dressed, to give me more time to decide.
Half an hour later I'm back to standing in the middle of the room with only my underwear on, the difference being the hairdo, a half up crown braid, and more prominent eyebrows and eyes. I think for a minute then put the jeans back and put on the skirt. It's black with coral and white flowers on it so I match it with a light coral sweater with a white shirt inside, that you can see the collar and wrists of. I tuck them both inside the skirt and put on some black tights. I then look at the time and see that it's 6.50pm so I grab a pair of black heels and make my way downstairs where Nate's standing and tells me that Zach's going to crash his car with me there because he won't be able to take his eyes off me. Before we have time say anything else the doorbell goes off and I got to open the door. When Zach sees me, his mouth fall open for a few seconds.
"Wow! You look great, can't believe I'm lucky enough to take you out," he exclaims and I laugh and tell him that he looks great too, he dressed in a pair of khakis with a maroon shirt, the first buttons on buttoned. I put my heels on and grab a light black coat.
"Now shall we?" I ask and motion towards the door and he nods.
"Of course, let's go," we tell Nate by and make our way to the car.
"Wait, you really did that? Oh my god," I'm probably embarrassing myself in the restaurant he took me to because I sound like a hyena, but I can't help myself. He told me the funniest story about what he did when he was in fifth grade. His brother, Nick, had taught him a very sexual word and told him that it meant something completely else, that someone was very cute, and so there was this girl he thought looked cute so he said it to her. However, the teacher heard him and told him off but him not understanding what he did wrong told the teacher the same thing, because he obviously had a crush on her.... And she got so mad and called his parents who made apologize to the teacher and the girl. And the funniest part is that he didn't understand what he said until he was a freshman. I would have killed to see his face when he realized what he had said.
"It's not that funny, it's the most embarrassing thing to happen to me and Nick still mocks me about it," he's laughing though.
"Oh my, you have to invite me over when he's home the next time, I have to meet this brother of yours," I tell him when I've calmed down from my hyena impression.
"Nah," he answers, making me playfully hit him. We continue to chat away about what crazy things we've done as kids. An hour later we're finished with our meal and he drives to a beach where we take a walk to the pier where we sit down and just cuddle for a while.
I don't know how long we sat there for before it started to get cold and we decided to drive home. He parks the car outside the house but we don't make any moves to exit it.
"I had an amazing time tonight, thank you," I tell him.
"Me too, let's redo it again soon," he replies and I nod.
"Absolutely."
He starts to lean in and I mirror him and soon our lips collide. I close my eyes and enjoy the sweetest kiss I've ever received. When it's over I already long for another.
"See you after the game tomorrow," I breath. I then peck his lips before exiting the car. He waits for me to get inside before driving so when I'm at the door I give him a slight wave before shutting it behind me. Well inside, I touch my lips and can't help myself from smiling like a maniac.
"I take it the date went well?" Nate asks from the top of the stairs and I nod.
"It was amazing, I really like him, Nate."
"I'm happy for you sis, you deserve someone great after what you've been through," I smile.
"Thanks, Nate," we hug before he explains that he has to sleep to be alert during the game tomorrow. I tell him goodnight before making my way to my room to call Elize and tell her everything about the evening.
