Mason Williams.
"I want to see the manger."
"Please Miss-"
"Call in your manager, I want to see the manager."
"Hello there what seems to be the problem?" I asked interrupting the argument.
"Are you the manager?" The woman asked, she was in her seventies.
"Yes I am. Anything I can do?" I said.
"Finally, I have asked for new towels for over two hours ago and I still haven't recieved any." She complained.
"Miss I have been trying to explain to you-" Tom, one of my employees tried to reason with her.
"That's okay Tom, what happened?"
"We sent towels to her room but no one responded and her door was locked." He explained in a whisper, obviously tired from talking to her.
"I got this, go." I told him. "Apologies Miss, I will deliver your towels personally right away."
"Thank you." She said with a smile and walked away.

I loosened my tie and took it off with a sigh and placed it in my locker.
"You got the lady her towels?" Tom asked taking off his suit jacket and tie as well.
"Shut up Tom, I could fire you." I said with a smile.
"Going home Mason? I thought you lived here." He said sarcastically.
"I do have a life other than running this hotel." I said. "Believe it or not."
"I'll see you tomorrow then." He said and left with a goodbye.
I rummaged through my small locker to see if anything had came in for me this morning, and just as i expected my eyes were locked on the familiar and much awaited piece of envelope.
The reunion invitation.
"There you are." I said to it nodding my head.
I put it in my pocket and drove home. I opened the door and walked into my apartment, took a shower and crawled in bed.
"Mason? Baby?"
"Yeah, it's me, go back to bed." I said.
She turned on the lamp on her side of the bed and she wrapped her hands around my waist.
"What's wrong? You're so tense." She said.
"I'm fine, Amelia. Go to sleep." I said.
"You're not fine Mason. What is that?" She asked when she saw the invitation in my hands. She snatched it from me and read it. "Oh baby, you don't have to go."
"I know, but I have to, I need to. I want to." I said.
"Do you want to do some calming exercises, to relieve from your stress?"
"No Amelia I don't want to do that, stop treating me like a patient, please I got enough on my mind just let me sleep." I said and rested my head on my pillow, my back facing her face. "Good night."
Without another word she turned the lamp back off and lied back down. "Good night."
Where do I start? It's been three years since Jane and I are broken up. I don't know what happened, one minute we were fine, and then we weren't. Her work had suddenly become her main priority, I would barely see her, I just think she thought of it as a distraction to take her mind off things, but she neglected the fact that I was there too, that I could've helped her in that too.
Once we broke up, I packed up my things and I moved here, to Boston. I didn't wanna be there any second longer, the only reason was Jane, and given the fact that she made it pretty clear that she didn't want me there, was a sign that I shoud leave, so i did. I got a job here at the hotel and a year later I was promoted to manager, so I basically run the place.
A year and a half ago, I met Amelia, she's a therapist, she was staying at the hotel and that's how we met. I proposed six months ago, she's my fiance now. I don't know why I did that to be honest. Don't get me wrong I do love her, but I wasn't ready to be engaged, I wasn't ready for this serious of a commitment. Amelia's nice, she's a good person, but she always treats me like a patient, always trying to get me to talk about the incident, she always brings that up, and ever since we got engaged, she's been doing that more. Acting like she's my wife, telling me what to do and what not to do. One of the reasons I want to go, is to get away from her for a little while.
I picked up my phone from my nightstand and texted Brian.
We're going. Are you? He replied.
I hesitate to reply, even though I made Amelia sure that I was going, I still wasn't so sure. I thought back to that place, what I almost did, what she made me do. I remembered how long it took for me to be able to look my friends in the eye again. It's just a building. I told myself and brought my fingers onto the keyboard and started typing.
Mason? Another text came in from Brian.
I'll be there. Was my reply.
