Y/N stood rigidly on the wooden platform beside the other women, her head lifted high. She tried her best to hide the fear dancing in her E/C eyes as she watched her master go from one woman to another, pointing out their strengths and value to the wealthy men interested in buying them.
Y/N didn't normally fear being sold considering she always acted up or said something the aristocrats didn't appreciate. But today, she feared being sold to a certain young man in the front of the crowd.
'Theres no way that can be him... I-I must be crazy to think...' The young maid servant thought before her master approached her, a scowl on his face as he regarded her.
"If you even think about making a mockery of me, I'll beat you until you forget your own name." He hissed at her before turning to the small crowd with a fake smile plastered on his face.
Y/N thought about retorting before glancing at the man everyone seemed to be moving away from. She decided to hold her tongue to save herself trouble.
"This is my most... 'spirited' maidservant," The slave master venomously pronounced spirited before continuing.
"On the bright side, she's not bad looking in the slightest," A couple men in the crowd chuckled including the one everyone seemed cautious of.
"And she performs what is asked of her and performs the request well." He stated as he rested his palm of the butt of his whip warningly at her when she shifted to a straighter posture.
Y/N felt her blood run cold when she heard the man in the front speak, his voice piercing her to the core.
"How much for her?" He asked in an innocent tone, even though his eyes shone with malice.
"Your Majesty, this is a mere rat! I have much better options for you!" Y'N's master replied, annoyance and shock visible on his features.
"If I wanted a dull, pathetic wench I would have picked the rest of your products." He snapped in response as he obnoxiously gestured to the other women who looked away, a shameful expression on their faces.
Normally, if someone had asked for her Y/N would've been proud and flattered, but this man was no joke. Especially considering the young royal before her was King George lll of Great Britain. She had heard horrible rumors that if a slave made a mistake in his presence, he would have them and their loved ones beheaded. Obviously, Y/N had no intention of having her head removed.
"Uh, do I get a say in this?" Y/N asked, attempting to sound as dumb and annoying as possible.
Y/N shuddered as she heard the king laugh at her words, amusement in his bright blue eyes.
"She's smart too? Well, I'm willing to pay extra for intelligence." He announced to her master, yet his gaze was still fixated on her.
"She's worth 150..." Her owner stuttered, obviously still surprised with the king's choice.
'No! What do I do? I can't be sold to that psychopath!' Y/N thought in horror, for the first time in her life she didn't know what to do.
"I'll pay more for the young lady." A different voice announced from the back of the crowd, causing everyone to turn in surprise.
The young king turned around, anger seething in his eyes as he scanned the crowd.
"Who dares to challenge me for a maidservant?" He snapped, causing the aristocrats around him to step away nervously.
"I dare to challenge you for the young lady." A young man spoke as he pushed his way to the front of the crowd.
Y/N blinked in surprise at the newcomers appearance, for he didn't appear to be a man willing to challenge a king.
"I am willing to pay 300 for her." The freckled man announced to the slave master, paying no attention to the angered king before him.
King George glared at him before turning to Y/N's dark haired master.
"I will pay 400 for the servant!" He yelled to the surprised slave master.
Y/N gawked at the attractive, tan skinned male that offered a large sum of money for her. She couldn't help but blush when he winked at her before grinning at the seething king.
"Then I'll pay 500 for her." He replied cheekily, as he tucked his hands into his pockets.
King George stomped his foot and yelled a higher price, his face turning red as he got angrier and angrier.
"700 for the woman!" The king snapped, glancing back the grinning male as he announced an even higher price.
"750 for the lady." He replied as he picked at his nails, his obnoxious grin never leaving his features.
"Fine! Take her! She's not worth my time and money!" King George screeched at the male who out bid him before stomping away as if he were a child having a temper tantrum.
"Sold! To the young man in the tan jacket!" Y/N's master announced to the crowd, obviously pleased by the outcome due to the high price being paid for her.
Y/N stumbled off the wood platform, a dumbfounded expression dominating her features as she approached the man who had paid so outrageously high for her. She couldn't help but smile as he gently grabbed her hand and raised it to his lips, maintaining eye contact with her as he did so.
"Hello missy, my name is John Laurens, may I ask your name?" He asked politely as he released her hand and stood to his full height.
"Y-Y/N L/N..." She stuttered in response, secretly pleased by being respectfully spoken to.
"Why did you help me?" Y/N asked as he lead her out of the crowd and onto the old fashioned streets.
"Because I need a maidservant, simply that and you seem like a good candidate." He replied with a immature grin as he loped his arm with hers.
Y/N rolled her eyes at his words as he led her down the street to an unknown location.
'Bullshit, there's gotta be something behind what he did. There's no way he would challenge a king just for my sake. He doesn't even know me.' She thought in annoyance as they rounded a corner.
'Guess I got all the time I need to figure that out, considering he owns me now.' Y/N couldn't help but smile at that happy thought as she let the handsome young man lead her away from her old home, to a safer anti-king life.
