It had taken Y/N all morning to reach the camp, and the least to say was that she was not glad to see it again. She glanced over the fence only to see the place swarming with officers and soldiers.
"Damn it I can't look for John inside, there must be somewhere else I can look.'
The h/c haired Patriot thought determinedly as she trudged through the snow around the borderline of the camp, holding her dress up and out of the snow but still getting the hem slightly damp. As she went around without attracted attention, Y/N kept her gaze trained on the center of the camp, hoping to catch a glimpse of her lover her was no doubtedly chained up somewhere.
'Idiot, he probably barged in with Hercules to look for me.'
She mused to herself, annoyance lacing her thoughts. Just as she was about to turn around and circling back someone caught her eye. It was John, chained to a thin tree with his head slumped against the trunk while two soldiers guarded him.
'Fucking idiot! Why doesn't he use his head whenever his life's in danger?'
Y/N balled her fists at the sight of one of the guards kicking him back against the tree when he tried to shift into a more comfortable position. The young woman shook in anger but inhaled deeply to calm herself to a better state of mind.
'Focus Y/N... Now... Wait, where is Hercules?'
Y/N thought, confusion leading her thoughts as she snuck back around the camp and ran behind the tree before the guards noticed her.
"John... John!"
She hissed in his ear in an urgent fashion as she hid her form behind the tree. John lifted his head weakly, blood trickled from his lips and down his chin.
"Y/N? I... I came for you but.... It doesn't look like you need saving..."
Y/N couldn't help but smile at his comment before cursing and pressing farther up against the tree when one of the soldiers came over. She held her still shackled wrists tightly to her form to muffle the sound of clanking chains. The young woman regretted not having Lafayette help her get them off, but she had an idea of how to use them to her advantage.
"Looks like we beat him delusional, he's talking to himself!"
The soldiers nearby and the one farther away laughed at his comment as John let out a low growl and shifted.
"You uncomfortable?"
John turned his head and glared daggers at him as he noisily moved in rebellion.
"Thats too bad then."
The guard walked the few feet up to him and kicked John hard in the jaw. The freckled male grunted as his head hit the tree trunk and more blood dripped down his face. The impact had shaken the tree and startled Y/N slightly, causing her chains to clink together. Y/N closed her eyes and held her breath as the British soldier paused.
"What the hell was that?"
She heard him mutter before he began to walk around the tree. Y/N did the only thing that came to mind along with using the shackles for the one thing she knew they were good for, strangling. As soon as he rounded the tree and saw her, he opened his mouth to yell to his partner but Y/N sprung up from the snow packed ground and flung lifted her hands above his head, this caused the chain to press against the back of his neck and make him turn around to try and remove it.
Y/N then pulled the soldier against her body and pulled back as hard as she could. It didn't make her feel better when she heard the British guard struggle to breath, grasping at the chain gaping. When he slumped against her she dropped him to the snow and felt his pulse. The least to say was that the soldier definitely would not be getting up anytime soon.
Y/N then patted him down in search of the keys to John's cuffs. She found a knife and took that before finding the bronze key and grasping it firmly as if it were the very thing holding her to life. The e/c eyed woman then carefully unlocked John's cuffs and remained behind the tree. She felt the handsome male stir and slowly pull his cut wrists out of their restraints without alerting the soldier who had yet to discover his friend missing, Y/N had dragged him behind the tree with her and left him there.
Y/N then grabbed his hand from the other side of the tree, and he gently pulled her forward and pressed his palm against her cheek before lovingly thumbing it. The h/c haired girl teared up slightly at the feeling of his freezing hand caressing her face.
"Are you okay?"
Y/N whispered from around the dead tree, worry evident in her soft voice.
"Now that you're here... I feel as if I could charge a castle."
John replied as he continued to hold her and occasionally froze every time the soldier guarding him glanced over.
"I'm going to get up and I need you to choke out the other guard, I'll help you keep him quiet so he doesn't alert anyone else."
John removed his hand from her cheek, causing the young woman to feel slightly disappointed as the two slowly stood up. Then the freckled male moved to the side as Y/N dashed by in the direction of the British soldier. Just before the guard could turn around to check on John, Y/N had her chain around his neck and was dragging him back towards John. The soldier tried to call for help, but the chain made it harder and the fact that John stuffed a cloth in his mouth.
This soldier had more strength than the other and was wiggling around too much for Y/N to get a proper grip on him. John then grabbed her shackled wrists and helped her yank him back with surprising force. When they finally wrestled him behind the tree John instructed Y/N to release him, confused the young Patriot did as he asked. As soon as the flipped her chain over the British guard's head, her lover wrapped his arms around his throat and swiftly jerked his head to the side.
The h/c haired woman cringed at the sound of the sickening crack but she still watched as the lifeless soldier fell to the ground beside his comrade. The freckled male panted heavily before turning to look at her, his emerald green gaze filled with sadness.
"I'm sorry you had to see that, I hate killing people."
Y/N simply nodded and sighed as she stared at him, her shackled wrists hanging uselessly in front of her. Suddenly, the young woman burst into tears and charged towards him before attempting to hug him, but the chains restricted her. John hugged her back but stepped away seconds later and lifted the chain restricting her.
'Let's get this off before we go fetch Hercules."
He said softly before taking her cold hand in his own and leading her to the outskirts before anyone noticed them. Y/N allowed him to tug her along before speaking.
"Speaking of that, where is Hercules?"
John's expression hardened as they neared a stump with an axe protruding from it, forgotten by the soldiers who now chatted not that far away.
"We both got captured when we came to rescue you, and the General took him away for interrogation and I was supposed to be next but you arrived."
Y/N felt sadness and guilt for her mentor who undoubtedly was being tortured for information. John paused by the stump and grabbed the axe, giving the handle a firm yank to successfully pull it free from the stump.
"Step back and spread your wrists apart, love."
The attractive male instructed as he firmly grasped the handle of the axe and help it in front of him. Y/N nervously did as she was told with slight hesitation.
"Please try not to kill me."
John laughed at her scared jest before lifting the axe above his head.
"Then I suggest you don't move."
The freckled male grunted as he swung down the axe with terrifying force, splitting the chains restricting her. The chains swung from both wrists as Y/N sighed with relief.
"That'll work for now."
John chuckled and rested the axe along his shoulders as he looked to a specific tent not too far away. He then glanced back at his lover with a wide grin.
"Let's go save Hercules."
