John had rode all night without stopping, which resulted in his horse suddenly stopping and collapsing. He groaned as he removed his free foot from the stirrup, and struggled to pull the other out from under the horse. By the time he did, the poor thing had died and there was nothing he could do about it. The freckled male cringed in pain as he limped away from his horse, and from being in a hurry he hadn't thought of grabbing the necessities from camp before leaving.

'Real smooth John, real smooth.'

He thought to himself, very annoyed at his misfortune as he flopped down in the snow. John then sighed and glanced at his dead companion in which he had actually raised when it was small. The attractive male felt even worse after realizing he ran the poor thing all night without pausing for a rest. He rested him gloved palm on the horse's furry side and muttered his thanks and apologizes.

He then stood to his full height and looked around him before a stray thought stuck him.

'The book! Wheres the book?'

In a panic he crawled over the horse and searched under the saddle, only to find it strapped in securely. He sighed in relief and fell back into the snow, clutching the sodden book tightly to his chest. Truth was if he lost it he would have no luck in finding the woman he loved, because Tarleton had written his location in the book on the first page, urging him in a taunt to come after him. Being the prideful male he was, of course he decided to go after him which wasn't very smart to begin with.

John continued to hold the book tightly for another moment before standing up once more and carefully climbed back over the gentle creature's body and pushing his way through the deep snow, the fierce winds pushing his curly hair out of his face. He continued to trudge along until something caught his eye, a campfire not to far behind him. Being as cold and tired as he was he moved as quickly as he could towards the flickering shape in the distance, hope visible on his handsome features.

As he neared it two horses came into view and two shapes of men huddled around the blazing fire. How they managed to light one so big in the middle of a snow storm? John had no clue, but he had only one thought crossing his mind. Warmth. When he could finally see the two men's face's he called out to them in hopes of them hearing over the howling wind.

"Hey! Over here!"

He stopped when the two men glanced at him, recognizing them instantly. The larger male of the two stood up and called over to him, annoyance evident in his deep voice.

"Really Johnny? You make us ride all the way out here in the freezing ass weather, and now you finally see reason? Where is your horse?"

John sighed at Hercules' scolding tone as he approached them, the book still secure in his hands. Lafayette glanced at him and snorted before moving away childishy. The freckled male finally answered Hercules' question as he sat down beside Lafayette in front of the fireplace, ignoring his silent treatment.

"Uh... I didn't stop to let him rest and drink...."

He dipped his head as he basked in the heat from the fireplace, his friend shook his head in disappointment.

"The things love can do to you John, I thought you out of all people would understand that."

Hercules sat down beside him as rubbed his cold hands together, shivering slightly. After another minute of awkward silence, John spoke up.

"How did you manage to light the fire in weather like this?"

Instead of Hercules replying, Lafayette interrupted him before he could do so.

"We brought supplies, which is what lovesick idiots should do before they run off to be a knight in shinning amour."

He snapped, his thick accent distorting a few of the words. John once more harbored a guilty look as he responded.

"It's my fault you're all the way out here, I get that you're mad but I have a good reason for going after Tarleton."

Lafayette snorted and turned to face him, an agitated expression on his handsome features.

"Oh yes? Then why don't you thoroughly explain why riding all night without any supplies is such a fantastic way to go about it? You will kill yourself before you reach Miss Y/N."

Lafayette didn't turn away from him as he fixated his steely glare on the smaller male, awaiting a response. John however was silent, a sad look being harbored on his features.

"Mhm, Thats what I thought."

The Frenchman hissed before suddenly standing up and stomping over to his horse. He pulled a water flask from his bag strapped to the saddle and tossed it onto the blazing fire, causing it to sputter and die down. John stared in shock at the dying fire as Hercules sprung to his feet, clearly angered.

"What the hell? We're gonna freeze you fucking idiot!"

He shouted at Lafayette who simply walked back over to his horse and put his foot in the stirrup, pulling himself easily into the saddle. John slowly stood up, the warmth in his jacket now gone due to the Frenchman's actions. He turned and watched Hercules as he groaned and stomped over to his own horse before mounting it and turning to John.

"Get on, we're going back to camp."

The huge spy snapped as he shifted forward onto the saddle, leaving a small space for his friend. However John stood his ground.

"No, I'm not going back until I get my girl back."

Hercules stared at him while Lafayette waited not to far away. He then sighed and shook his head at the freckled male.

"You're not going to get far with a book, so get on I have a better idea."

John watched him for a moment as he put together the spy's words in his mind. He then walked over and pulled himself onto the saddle behind him. Hercules then called out to Lafayette.

"See you in a bit Lafayette, I owe John this."

He suddenly spurred his horse and they raced away, leaving the surprised Frenchman sitting there in his saddle as the two gained distance. John knew why Hercules decided to help him and it was because of what he said to him earlier.

Turns out when John yelled and threw Y/N's book at him, the words had really left an impact on him. And in a way it was his fault that Y/N went on that mission anyway, so he had no choice but to help. The winds burned their faces as they raced at breakneck speeds across the terrain, John had the thick book open in front of his and was pointing in the direction they had to go every once in awhile. Now that he had Hercules helping him and supplies that could keep them going for awhile, nothing was going to stop him from getting Y/N back.
