{As displayed in the title, this story is on hold. But I decided that I would update as a treat for you all, Merry fucking Christmas Hamilton fans!
-Slow Motion Dabbing (Tess)}Hamilton and Y/N's breath puffed out in small wisps of mist as the jogged towards the lights of the nearby town, exhausted and freezing as they leapt through the snow hand in hand. They had been running for about an hour now, stopping for a few minutes to rest and check the writer's wounded shoulder. The sun had set minutes ago, making the air colder by the minute. The two shaking patriots wheezed and huffed as they continued onward despite the powerful winds and the thick snow.
As the made progress and slowed down from fatigue, Y/N's raspy voice was barely heard over the howling wind.
"Do you... huff... want to pause our current course for a moment, sir?"
The dark haired replied with a weak nod and sunk down into the cold drafts of white powder, his hair whipping in the violent wind. Y/N collapsed beside him, the hem of her tattered red dress soaking wet from the snow. She pressed her freezing hand against his shot shoulder, earning a pained hiss from him.
"My apologizes."
She murmured before pushing aside his coat to get a better look. Luckily for him, the cold kept the wound from festering the blood flow had stopped significantly. She cringed at the sight of it once she leaned in to get a better look; spotting the butt of the bullet protruding deep within his shoulder. The blue lipped woman glanced up at Hamilton, a nervous look evident in her expressive e/c eyes. Her voice cracked multiple times as she spoke and met his tired gaze.
"Sir, that bullet needs to come out. It'll provide less of a chance of festeration."
He nodded slowly, obviously not relishing the idea of the pain that would come.
"Do what must be done, Y/N..."
The young woman brushed a cold strand of h/c hair out of her eyes as she swallowed nervously; desperately recalling her standard medical training. With shaking, cold fingers she pushed the edges of the wound open and ignored the cry from her superior. Carefully, she used her free hand to barely grasp the end of the bullet with her now bloody nails and quickly pulled the offending metal out of his arm. Hamilton gasped in pain, but stopped as she rubbed snow on his wound in an attempt to numb it.
The seemingly vain attempt must've worked, because he sighed and leaned back slightly.
"Thank you..."
Y/N simply nodded and stood shakily to her feet, the snow that had seeped into her flats sending pings of freezing pain and numbness through her feet. The young woman grunted as she lifted Hamilton onto his feet and slung his arm across her thin shoulders, continuing their embark towards the lights ahead.
When they had finally reached the town, two of the nurses from the small town met them and helped Y/N lead Hamilton to a medical attention tent within the camp set up within the small space. Minutes later, Y/N found herself wrapped in a thick blanket in front of a fire in the medical tent; her flats and red attire replaced by oversized boots and a thick, canary yellow dress. A nurse had given her mint tea earlier and she now sipped from it, relishing the warmth the fire and the beverage provided.
Every time a soldier or nurse entered the tent to tend to her and Hamilton, she would ask about the battle and they would reply with a vague, 'No word yet'. She found herself biting her nails and staring at the tent exit by midnight, despite the requests of the nurses to get rest. Y/N had no idea how Hamilton could go to sleep, with his comrades and soldiers out fighting without him. The thought drove her crazy.
