It would've taken Y/N three days to get back to camp, if she had survived the harsh journey without warmth and British Officers coming after her. Yep, she would have died if she hadn't come across Lafayette. When she had been struggling through the freezing snow, her hair frosted over and her lips blue. The freezing Patriot had seen a fire from not to far away, so she went towards it like a moth attracted to light.

To Y/N's surprise, she found the young Frenchman crouching in front of the fireplace, bundled up in three jackets and tight gloves. They had stared each other down for a moment before the frozen haired girl burst into tears and threw herself into his awaiting arms. Lafayette spent the rest of the afternoon warming her up the best he could and wrapped her up in two of his thick jackets.

As she lay against him, basking in the warmth of the flickering fire before speaking.

"W-What are y-you doing out h-h-here?"

She stuttered, her little form shuddering under a sudden and violent draft of wind against her face. Lafayette snuggled closer to her when he felt the movement before responding to her question.

"I could ask you the same thing, I was waiting out here waiting for John and Hercules to return with you. But I see you have already escaped."

Y/N shifted around to face him, horror in her e/c eyes.

"John and Hercules went to the camp? No! We have to go stop them now!"

She struggled to stand up but Lafayette held her down with his arm around her waist, a pained expression harbored on his handsome features.

"I am afraid we cannot, they left hours ago and by horseback as well. I believe that the two have already arrived at the British camp."

The Frenchman spoke softly, still holding on tight to the young spy struggling against him. Y/N finally stopped struggling and slumped down beside him, an empty look on her attractive features.

"They'll die... John will die..."

The young woman felt tears threatening to spill at the thought of her beloved being killed by British soldiers. She knew that during her escape she angered them greatly, and they could very well take out that anger on her lover and her mentor. Then she remembered the chains around her wrists and turned to Lafayette who glanced at them as well.

"Would you like me to attempt freeing you of the chains?"

Y/N shakily inhaled, holding back a sob as she shook her head. To be honest, the cuffs had been digging into her wrists and hurting her because of how cold and hard they were. She had been so focused on getting back to John that she had forgotten they still remained firmly tightened to her dainty wrists. Lafayette still hadn't said anything about her previous comment but he simply nodded when she refused help and sunk back down.

They continued to sit there until the sun began to fade behind the peaks of the mountains causing vibrant, warm colors to clash and light up the snow, giving it an illusion of sparkling. Lafayette had already fallen asleep before the sun fully set and Y/N still leaned against him, her eyes heavy but not quite at the point where they felt like lead.

Y/N exhaled heavily, her breath swirling in front of her nose and mouth as she breathed out. She glanced back in the direction she came from, the sunset illuminating where her old foot prints were. The h/c haired Patriot teared up as she kept her eyes fixed in the snow covered landscape before her.

'John, please stay alive.'

She thought before her eyes felt like lead and slowly closed as she slumped farther into Lafayette, who still had his arm loosely wrapped around her middle as he kept them both warm. ----------------------------------------Y/N awoke around midnight, the moonlight shining down and the stars beautifully visible and stretched across the dark sky. Her eyes stuck every time she blinked as she slowly pushed herself up and off the sleeping Marquis that still had his arm around her waist. She didn't remove his hand as she gazed at the fire, that had reduced to nothing but burning embers. The h/c haired woman then carefully lifted his arm off her waist, allowing it to gently press against the ground that had been cleared of snow hours earlier.
Y/N slowly stood up, the thick jackets Lafayette had provided her weighing her down slightly.

'John.'

She thought as her breath swirled in front of her lips as she yawned and looked back in the directions her footprints were. Luckily, it hadn't snowed since the day Hercules and John left to retrieve Y/N and her traces were still broadly visible in the cool snow. Before she had fallen asleep, she had decided to sneak off while Lafayette was asleep to go after John as he had went after her.

Y/N stripped off the heavier and thicker jacket before placing it beside the Frenchman, still currently deeply sleeping from being awake all night and day. She smiled at her friend's sleeping face as she pushed her warms farther into the arm holes of the current jacket she kept before slipping her slip on flats back on and brushing of her pale red dress that ended at her ankles. The dress was pretty worn down and dirty from being worn for almost a week but that didn't really bother the e/c eyed woman.

She then moved across the small camp as quietly as possible before grabbing a small bag and filling it with an apple, a water canteen, and matches along with oil to light a fire. Y/N then glanced at Lafayette one last time, though she wasn't super close to him she still adored him. She smiled and muttered thank you under her breath before patting his horse's head and trudging back into the snow, her gaze fixed on her footprints as the bright moonlight illuminated her surroundings perfectly.

-------------------------------

Lafayette awoke at the early hours of dawn and shifted to glimpse the girl beside him. Only there was one problem. Y/N wasn't there. He bolted to his feet and looked all around him, hoping to catch a glance of a pale red dress and h/c hair. All the Frenchman saw was miles of snowy fields and his horse that currently was standing up and watching him with it's big, brown eyes.

He sighed before patting the stallion's nose and smiling at the sight of footprints behind the four legged animal.

"Clever girl, she followed her footprints.'

Lafayette couldn't help but chuckle and shake his head when he saw that his second water canteen and his a few of his horse's apple had vanished.

'Good luck Miss. Y/N, I have no doubt you will return with your lover and my friend.'

He thought as he began to pack up his supplies and planned to return to camp.
