CONNOR's POV
I felt like a stupid stalker.
Yet it was definitely a different kind of rush inside me, if you get what I mean. I've never even wanted to stalk anyone before so this would be my first and it somehow felt kind of interestingly fun. We past the gym and I followed him all the way until he entered the office. I made sure there was enough distance between us so that he wouldn’t suspect anyone was following him. Silence followed behind me as I continued my way, my mission at hand. The last school bell went off almost an hour ago. I peered from afar so that I could see him moving inside and I didn’t want to get busted for stalking. He was sitting on a chair with his parents holding his hands for support. They were talking about something and they looked dead serious about it. I couldn’t see much of Principal Vandrick’s face from here but the parents looked really dissatisfied and worried about their beloved son.
I had already sent a text to Niesta a few minutes ago. Hope she would still trust me enough not to care. They could totally go and enjoy the pizzas without me, I didn’t care much. I was full anyway. Contrary to what Niesta said, I thought the cafeteria lunches were epic and there was nothing wrong with the food but I just couldn’t say it to her face. I wiped the beads of sweat off my forehead and my racing heart began to slow down to a more bearable pace.
So sorry babe! I got something else coming up. My dad’s gonna pick me up later. See you tomorrow k babe? You’re awesome. Love you.
Damn it! I really want to hear more. I couldn’t read lips! Well I really wish I could. I pulled the strap of my backpack on my shoulder and I moved stealthily closer, trying to hide my tall self by walking sideways with my back plastered on the wall heading towards the office. I wasn’t so sure if they could actually see me from inside the office but better safe than sorry right? I was a bit more relieved once I tiptoed closer I could hear their voices more clearly.
“But I don’t understand why you are both here. The detention wasn’t a punishment at all. The reason why I didn’t mention about the detention is because Alain is a very promising student and I didn’t want to alarm you unnecessarily.” I heard the principal’s voice loud enough through the office doors. He could be quite an asshole sometimes. He was also the one who sent me to that friggin’ detention too so Alain had the same fate. Thank God he's Freddy's dad and I would never disrespect the elderlies because that’s just plain rude. I even met Alain again after so long, that was basically the only cool part from the whole detention so I should probably be more thankful towards him.
“But this is not solely about the detention. I respect that you were being discreet by not informing us about it. Indeed I don’t want to be overly worried myself, but could you please explain to us the main reason for his detention, Mr. Vandrick?” It was Alain’s mother and she sounded so anxious and worried. Poor lady and poor Alain. I really hoped that he wasn’t in any trouble but with Principal Vandrick, anything could happen.
“Mr. Vandrick, I’m grateful that you’re acknowledging my son's bright academic potential. He could enrol to a prestigious college by now, but he chose to study here instead. What I can’t understand is – given his spotless record – why you would refuse to tell us the real reason for his detention. I find this treatment of my son to be most unfair!” His dad was quite spirited and pissed. I wouldn’t want to mess with him for sure. Principal Vandrick is in deep shit then. I approached next to the door and the wall behind me would hide me away from getting caught as long I remain really silent and my back glued to the wall.
I had no clue what had triggered me to unleash this hidden, stalkerish side of me. I’m way beyond my own expectation. Girls would usually do these sorts of thing to me and now it’s just too creepy from my point of view. Connor the star basketballer, eavesdropping on a private discussion in the principal’s office? Nobody would ever believe that! Not even me! I bet I look so fucking desperate right now. Shit! I’m never gonna do this ever again.
