Okay, so this might have a lot of Rent references. I literally watched it today. It's an amazing musical/movie/whatever the heck you call that!!! -C
People tell Peggy she doesn't get it. She has 'crushes'. What even is a crush? Sure, it gives you that crushing feeling. Your heart skips a beat in your chest when you see them. Your cheeks flush, and you find yourself living for that smile...Those words. Their jokes are funnier, and their little things that annoyed you so much don't seem to matter.
Or is that love?
Nobody could ever describe love to Peggy. Not properly. The way she sees it though, she's had five loves in her life. All of them have ended horribly...Well, the current one hasn't.
Peggy is a little bit...Not ambitious? She wants to be an actress, sure. But she wants a husband, a family, almost more than that. She knows Angelica would call her an anti-feminist or something.
But it's the truth. The first boy she likes is named Thomas. It's not Thomas Jefferson, but he shares his name.
The boy is one year older than Peggy, and she likes him for all of elementary school.
Peggy apparently isn't subtle enough about it. By the end of fifth grade, everyone knows.
"So, Peggy," Thomas slowly says on the last week of fifth grade.
She blushes. Just his voice makes her blush and feel giddy. "Yeah, Tommy?"
"There's a rumor that a Schuyler likes me..."
"I wonder who started that one!" Peggy finds the hope blossoming in her chest. Does...Does he like her back? Is it possible?
Thomas takes a deep breath. "Is it Eliza?"
"W-what?" she stammers out.
"Because, dang, Eliza is a ten out of ten. I'd date your sister-"
"It's me, you doofus," Peggy snaps and then runs away.
That night, Eliza comments that she looks like her heart has broken. Peggy tells Eliza to screw off...Because, in a bizarre way, it's her fault.
Peggy really envies Eliza that day.
Number two was a cutie named Owen. He lasted exactly one year.
He was so nice to her. They had danced around each other, like it was a game. Peggy was determined to come out on top.
She would poke him and wink. He would return with flinging his arm around her shoulders. Whenever Peggy would blush, he would consider it a victory.
Whenever Owen smiled, Peggy felt as if the skies aligned for one moment, and the galaxies were perfect. No dying stars, no star dust bunnies.
It's on the last day of seventh grade when she spots him at her house.
Peggy starts charging up to him, dancing and skipping. "O-"
Then, her eyes find Angelica.
The entire scene shifts, and now Peggy decides to be a spy. She stalks forwards. With as much as grace as she can, Peggy dives into a bush. It's close enough to hear the conversation. She can hear their every word.
