Alrighty liSTEN UP I PROMISE I DON'T ACTUALLY THINK MARIA WOULD DO THIS SHE'S TOO MUCH OF AN ANGEL BEAN BUT I HAD TO GET BACK AT MY FAVORITE CO-AUTHOR FOR RIPPING MY HEART OPEN AND I HAVEN'T GIVEN ELIZA A ONESHOT IN FOREVER also I forgot if I ever published that one with John with the head thing but lol everyone already knows now,,, -L

It was a fool thing to even pretend, she knows now.

Oh, but it was a constant high! The little-peppered kisses now and again, the happy dates, the loving glances.

Heck, Maria was a high. Just being with her felt like floating. Anytime they were together, Eliza just felt so...

Helpless.

Completely head over heels. Because love with Maria was too sweet, too good to be true. She really should have known.

She was doing some research on the process of beer making, and she decided to go to the Place To Be. Maria was out with some friends from high school for the night, and Eliza was on her own.

Recently, they hadn't seen each other much, and Eliza felt kind of bad. But she was getting such good grades finally! She was studying for hours each night, note taking had become her prime skill. Eliza tried to spend time with Maria when she could, and she knew Maria wanted more, so she had been trying really hard to balance her life.

She walked up to the counter, hair pinned back and clipboard in hand. "Pardon? Do you mind if I interview you?" She asked the bartender.

"Sure," the fiery red headed girl responded. "Come on back."

The interview went very well, and it was actually pretty interesting. Eliza kept laughing to herself, though.

She had spent so much time with Maria, she could swear she kept hearing her voice!

She thanked the woman and walked out, flipping through her notes. Then, she heard a laugh that made her freeze.

"You're so funny!" She heard a drunk Maria slur. She turned slowly to find her girlfriend draped over a good looking guy.

A lump formed in her throat as she watched them kiss sloppily, clutching her clipboard to her chest.

Eliza ran back to their dorm, dangerously close to tears. As soon as she hit the bed, she burst out sobbing.

So that's why Maria suddenly was "hanging out with her high school friends" all the time. Her mind raced for a better explanation than the inevitable of Eliza being a bad girlfriend and not giving Maria enough attention.

That didn't stop the hurt, though.

Weeks passed as Maria went out more and more, and Eliza pretended not to know what she was doing.

But everything that goes around comes around, which brings us to find Eliza crying again on her bed, and Maria coming home sober.

She curses softly to herself when she sees Maria come in, and turns around on the weak hope she won't notice.

"Eliza?" Comes the hesitant question.

"Yeah?" She croaks back.

There's a long silence. Maria's a smart girl, it doesn't take her much time.

"How... how long?"

"Since the last Tuesday of November."

"I... I can explain Eliza-"

Eliza turns around to face her, shaking and unexpectedly angry. "I told you I was trying! To balance my life and make time for you because you matter to me! I begged you to be patient and wait for me to be the best me I could, but you couldn't wait, could you? Even after I saw you at the bar that night, I would have figured it out having asked to meet your "high school friends" multiple times. I only thought I was just a secret that you wanted to keep. And while that's kind of disheartening, I would have been fine with it because you were enough!" Eliza shouts. Maria is crying now too and she tries to respond.

"I'm not done. You... Maria, you were enough. Yes, I love the kissing, but that's not what a relationship centers around for me-"

"It's not just the kissing for me!" Maria protests. "I can't believe you would even think that!"

"Then tell me why you would make excuses to go out and kiss people!"

Maria looks down.

"Listen, I'm sorry," Eliza begins. "I know I haven't been giving as much time to you as a good girlfriend would but Maria... I would have waited."

Maria sighs, not meeting her eyes.

"Maria, I love you," Eliza says. "I love you more than you can know. So if I'm not giving you what you really need, you should have told me. And... and I could be enough."

im gonna stop it there before i wreck something
