-Luna's pov-
It had been a couple of weeks that we've been in the thieves camp. I learned that Duke was the leader of the thieves, and was pretty fair. Brant had taught me how to fight unbeknownst to the others. Then he told me and Rapunzel what Duke really intended to do with me and my sister - that we were to be sold. So, he presented me to Duke and I was told to fight several skilled thieves and if I won I could stay as a thief myself. I won thanks to Brant teaching me, and Duke was thoroughly impressed with me. He allowed me, Fay, and Rapunzel to stay. Then the next week passed by like a blur. Fay, Luke, Brant and I became better friends, Rapunzel was friends with them as well but preferred talking to boys.
I woke up with light dancing around the room. I was dressing when I heard voices outside of my tent. Freezing I listened in. "Hey Ryan, Luke and Brant went to the neighboring kingdom to buy more food rations last night. They haven't been seen yet, Duke sent a couple of rookies to see where they were. The whole kingdom was abuzz with the news that the king found the thieves that stole Madame Gothels daughters. She arrived when she heard they were found and demanded that the king execute them. Their being held in the palaces dungeon until tomorrow's execution." Ryan muttered, "Good." I almost felt like jumping through the tent and strangling Ryan to death.
After I heard their footsteps retreat I shook Fay awake. I summed up what Ryan had been told. She stared at me,"What are we supposed to do though?" I stared back at her, "What else? Go and break them out!" She sighed,"I knew you were going to say that." I grinned as we changed into simple brown dresses, and grey cloaks. We both slipped weapons under our cloaks, and I carried a rope with me. We slipped out of the tent and over to the edge of a platform. I tied the rope around a plank in the wood and we both slid easily down the rope. We ran off in the direction of the kingdom.
After about an hours walk we finally made it to the kingdom. We covered our heads with the cloaks hoods. I casually asked a trader where the dungeon was. He told us that it was a good distance off near a river. The king apparently didn't want criminals being kept near him. So he built a whole building just for them. It was guarded thoroughly. I bought a couple of good horses from the man, so Fay and I could get their while the day was young. Fay chose the more calm roan one, while I chose the black wild one.
I seen the building from a distance, it was almost like a small fortress. But I seem an opening in a window on the second floor near a tower. I tightened my hold on the horses reins and pulled him to a stop behind an old tree. Fay reined hers in next to mine. We each swung off our horses' backs and tied their reins to a tree branch. I gestured to Fay that the window on the second floor was open. Luckily their was a tree near the window that we could easily climb up and into the building. She nodded briskly and took off towards the window, keeping well hidden among the dark green foliage and brush. I followed her lead - careful not to step on any wayward twigs.
We safely made it to the tree, I swung myself up onto the lowest branch first. I was very thankful I had worn flat practical shoes. I pulled myself upwards again and then straddled the branch that the window was near. I pulled Fay up behind me. I froze at the sound of the bark creaking under out weight. My eyes widened. I jumped into the window ignoring the fact that a guard could be waiting to kill me. I landed on my feet and stood up slowly looking back and forth down the hall for guards. I mumbled,"Come on Fay." As I helped her in through the window. I heard a voice down the hall,"Luna? Is that you? Hurry up and get down here!" My eyes widened and I took out my knife and raced down the hall where the voice came from.
Brant was shaking the bars of their dungeon cell while Luke was sitting on the straw bed provided. I grinned, "Oh my goodness you two have no idea how happy I am to see you both!" I looked around the room for a key as Brant was urging me to hurry up that he wanted to keep his head. I grabbed the keychain out of a drawer in the desk. I grinned as I opened their cell,"Okay come on out impatient captive." He just glared and traipsed out of the cell, while Luke followed acting as if he was leaving his throne room. I picked up their swords off the desks and tossed them to both of the boys. We all exited the dungeon room and went back into the hall. Where guards were running towards us. Brant took off running the other direction where guards were closing in, "Awww shit!" I gestured frantically to the window next to us. "Jump!" Luke bowed to Fay, "Ladies first." Fay rolled her eyes and yanked him by the arm, where they both tumbled out the window. The guards were closing in and I had to kick a couple of them back. Brant picked me up and jumped out the window. I started screaming as we fell. The last thing I thought was - I'm going to die.
