Trevor

It was Monday, and I might even say luckily, because it meant I had somewhere to go apart from constantly sitting in the room with Charlie, who had barely spoken a word to me all Sunday. Despite being slightly sick of him, I had threatened him into walking me to my classes. We were just on our way to my first class when someone called out for me.

"Trev! Hey man, come over here!" It was a boy from the football team. I turned and walked over to him, grabbing Charlie's elbow as he tried to slip away.

"Don't abandon me with these people!" I whispered sternly into his ear. "Hello!" I bumped the guy's fist awkwardly, and waited in anticipation as the small group of people let their eyes wander from me, to Charlie and back again, like they couldn't fathom why we were walking together.

"This is the new guy, Trevor Jaxon. He's on the football team," the boy who'd called me over said, and finally broke the awkward silence.

"Do you have a girlfriend?" one of the girls asked with a bold wink.

"Ehh... no." I cringed and felt myself become horribly self-conscious. I heard Charlie snort to himself.

"Why is he here?" a plump boy asked and nodded in my room mate's direction.

"He has agreed to guide me around today," I said with a shrug. The hostility in the boy's posture didn't escape me.

"So you're... friends?" he asked. I felt myself straighten and take an almost threating stance.

"Yes, why?" I asked coldly. Charlie nudged me in the side but I ignored him.

"Well... He doesn't really have any friends," they boy answered weakly. He probably saw how I was looming over him. "He's just weird, you know. He's mean too..." Then the boy got seriously worked up about it, and glared brazenly at Charlie. "He's an idiot! He's twisted! I don't think he's right in the head!" Something about the boy simply pissed me off, and I had to struggled not to knock his teeth out.

"Listen up, mate," I started, but got interrupted.

"I'm the idiot? Excuse me, but it is not my girlfriend who's been cheating on me for a month without me noticing." The girl standing beside him turned suddenly red, but the boy didn't seem to notice.

"Liar!" the boy yelled, and looked positively outraged.

"And didn't you ever wonder where that rumour came from, the one about your... ahem... size?" Charlie cleared his throat. "That was her too."

"You're lying! You made that up! Go fuck yourself, no one else wants you!" the boy yelled, and attracted everyone's attention.

"Hey!" I shouted and stepped in. Silence spread in the hallway and I felt blood throb in my ears. "What the hell? That was uncalled for! Say sorry!"

"He's a liar, he makes everything up! I'm warning you, Trevor, nothing he says is true!" The boy looked almost at the brink of tears, but I didn't care; my arm flew up to meet his face. My attack was stopped in mid-air as Charlie grabbed my arm and wrenched it around to my back with a strength I wouldn't have given him credit for.

"You don't even know him," I growled in his face, still painfully held back by the boy I was defending. "Don't talk to him like that, and stay away from me!" Charlie let go of me as the boy stepped back several paces. People looked at me like I'd grown a second head.

I pushed Charlie's shoulder to get him moving down the hall. "A simple 'thank you' would be brilliant right about now."

"I had everything under control, I didn't need your help."

"Are you trying to piss me off?" I spit. "I defended you!" When Charlie didn't reply, I scoffed. "Have it your way then."

"Here's your classroom, I'll come get you afterwards - our next class is the same." Charlie left and I tried to not look as angry as I felt when I entered the room.

"You must be Mr Jaxon," the teacher said and glanced at me.

"Quite right, sir."

"I'm Eugene Lucas, your new English teacher."

"Obviously," I muttered.

"I don't like your tone, young man," the teacher said with a glare.

"Really?" I smiled up at him innocently, and felt the need to rip his head off (metaphorically, of course) like I always did when I was angry.

After one hour of listening to the teacher's boring, monotone voice which made me want to blatantly kill myself, the bell rang and relieved me of my pains. It was not too late for the teacher to assign an essay for Monday next week. The class groaned in unison.

"I can't believe that he already gave us an essay!" a girl said and looked expectantly up at me.

"Sure," I said, but didn't agree. I'd already done several essays in my old school this first month only.

"There you are," a deep voice said, barely audible over the other students. "Come on." Charlie grabbed my elbow and started leading me away from the girl. She scoffed and turned on her heel, making Charlie laugh.

"God, I wanted to kill that teacher!"

"I'll never let you in a classroom when you're angry again," Charlie promised. "You have quite a temper," he observed.

"Yes, I do. What did you do to that boy anyway? He can't hate you that much for no reason."

"We've had past dealings... I'd like to not go into detail." I couldn't help but be curious as Charlie's face scrunched up in discomfort and something akin to regret.

We were almost by the classroom when Matt came sprinting towards us. He had to stop and lean on Charlie's shoulder to catch his breath.

"What is it?" Charlie asked impatiently.

"He says it's urgent," Matt breathed.
