You didn't want my heart,
Because then I wouldn't have one.
And so I cried for days;
My lips thirsted for your warmth.
You didn't hold my hand,
Because it was clammy and cold.
I shoved them deep in my pockets, crestfallen;
I wanted you to warm them up.
You didn't say goodnight,
Because you said you'd see me tomorrow.
I miss you even when I blink;
How could I last an entire night?
You didn't kiss me goodbye,
Because you knew the feeling is fleeting.
Instead you gave me your hand by the light of the moon.
And your heart, because you knew I needed one.
