Heaven in Middle Earth

Aquamarine water

licks my feet.

Its cold tongue

runs across the sand.

Maybe this is paradise,

here in the Mediterranean.

Sounds of curling waves,

splashing rocks and people,

ripples into my own ears.

The golden sun,

rubbing me in its warmth,

floats in the air,

bronzing my skin.

Who could be sad here?

I myself am a lonely man,

and yet here,

I am at one

at peace

with nature,

God himself, even.

Life makes sense,

because I think

we are meant to sit

by the sea

and just watch waves

splash along the shore.

Take me away with you

to a better place.
