Not So True Love

Chapter 1

Central Park,  NY. That's where my story starts and where it ends. . .

It was a normal saturday afternoon.  The tempature had just reached ninety degrees, and I was wearing my sunglasses to protect my eyes. "You know, Alex-" my best friend Mona started before I cut her off.

"No, Mona!  Don't even finish that sentence!" I replied "I will not dye my hair blonde!"

"Oh," Mona pouted.  "But it would look cute blonde, or even black," she added mischievously.

"No, Mona I will not-"

"Hi, Alex," a shy voice said.  I turned around and there (of course) was Ashleigh Tompson.  The boy who has followed me around for past three years.

"Um, hello?" I replied.

"Stalker," Mona whispered so only I could hear.

"Um," Ashleigh said almost whiningly.  "I have to go. . .  I think."  Ashleigh frowned as he turned and ran away hurriedly.

"Oh my gosh, does he ever not follow you, Alex?" Mona said quietly.

"That's a little harsh Mona," I replied quietly.

I looked off into the distance and saw Ashleigh getting picked on by a bunch of kids from school.  From what I heard they were calling him things like loser, nerd, and other things I don't ever want to repeat.  Every person in school picked on him, and I could understand why. He was a scrawny kid with blue nerd glasses taped in the middle with hideous red tape.  His hair was blonde and cut in a buzz cut.

And one more thing I could never understand - he liked me, of all people. I mean, come on!  I was a 5' girl with sometimes straight, sometimes curly brown hair. I had hazel eyes, framed with black "grandma" glasses.  No one likes me.  Except him. . . of course.
