~~Supper sorry this is late I completely forgot to update last night.
Before Dilan left he turned and gave me a smile, which I returned, before disappearing into the elevator. I looked over in the direction of the adults and found my father standing there, looking at me. By his posture I knew it was time to leave. I stood up. The feeling Dilan's hand still making my hand tingle in a foreign way. It felt good though.
My father gave he a stern look that showed hints of confusion and frustration. I didn't give it a second thought after my father clasped a hand on my shoulder and steered me into the elevator. As the metal contraption shifted my father pulled his phone from his pocket. He had been given the latest model and he had no idea how to use it, his old phone was much easier to use. I only knew how to use it because they taught us how to in school.
"So," my father spoke. "How do you use this thing?" He held it out to me.
I took it firmly in my grasp. I leaned over towards him so that he could see what I was doing. By the time we reached the ground floor he seemed to have gotten the hang of it.
"So how do I call your mother and tell her not to expect us for dinner?"
I pressed a few buttons and connected him to mom. While he chatted with her and explained to her that he and I were going out to dinner, I looked around. I knew better than to listen in on his conversation. It would be rude of me, even if I did want to know what they were saying. My father hung up the phone minutes later. Though as it turned out it was actually my mother who hung up.
My father started walking towards the car and I followed close behind. Once we got into the car I buckled my seat belt. I had no idea where my dad was going to take me to dinner. We don't go out much. Soon we were headed towards Brooklyn and away from the larger part of the city.
We pulled up next to an old building. It had seen many fierce storms by the looks of the weathered exterior, but had had quite a bit of work done to it. The doors had most likely been replaced and the wiring had to have been updated. Not to mention there probably hadn't been beautiful flowers outside of the restaurant when it was first built.
My father locked the car and started taking strides towards the door. I caught up with him in a matter of seconds. He held the door open for me. "This used to be a diner. I got beat up out back. Not my finest moment but certainly a valuable one." he paused as we entered. "I found out that it had been restored the other day and I thought it be nice if I took you to see part of my past." I nodded. He father walked up to the waiter that stood behind a large wooden podium. "Table for two please."
"Right this way," the waiter took out two menus before leading us deeper into the restaurant. For an old diner it sure was big. It still felt a bit like a diner, but the lights had been replaced with dimmer ones and the windows given treatments so that the area was much darker. I wasn't exactly comfortable with it either and nether was my father.
"Much darker than I remember," my father joked. I let out a slight giggle and my father chuckled.
We were seated at a small booth in the back. Which confused me. There hadn't been too many people here and I wondered if my father had asked for a seat away from other people. That wasn't really like him though. I looked to him but he seemed just as confused. He seemed to have let it slip from his mind but I knew he hadn't.
After we ordered me father spoke. I knew it had been coming, I just hadn't known when.
"Listen, Caroline, what happened back there, during the meeting. I don't want to see it again. I don't know what it was, but there's important information being given out tomorrow and I need you to be focused."
