I waited outside the conference room for my father. When he arrived he gave me a slight smile before I fell into step with him as we entered the room. He walked in as if he was a man on a mission. It could quite possibly be that he was on a mission. One in which I was unaware of. I followed him to our seats. Sat diagonally from me was Hawkeye's son. He smiled and winked at me when my father wasn't looking. Natasha gave him a confused glance and he shrugged but flashed my his pearly whites when she looked away. I smiled back but tired my hardest not to respond to his silly smile with a laugh. I suppressed the girly giggle that made it's way into my throat.
But not entirely.
I weird gurgley, hiccupy laugh sound bubbled up from my throat.
My father looked at me with a bit of a sideways glance. Confusion, concern, and a bit of disappointment filled his eyes. Confusion because he, along with everyone else (my self included), had no idea what sound just came out of my mouth or why. Concern, for my well being. What if it had chocked on something. Disappointment because I couldn't behave myself for even a few minutes. Something I hadn't done in years.
He placed a hand on my knee. "Are you alright," my father asked me. The disappointment left and was replaced with concern.
I nodded, "I'm alright."
"Good," he patted my knee a few times before removing his hand. He leaned into a comfortable Poisson his head rested on his right hand and the other resting on his leg, which was resting on his knee. He looked over at me a sweet smile on his lips. "I'll take you out to dinner tonight, some father - daughter time, how does that sound."
"You don't have to do that dad, I'm fine. Some time at the gym would be just fine."
"No, no." my father started. "I insist, it's about time we went out anyway."
"Okay, dad." I said with a smile. He reached over and grabbed my hand and lifted it to his mouth. He left a soft kiss on the back of my hand.
"You know I love you, right?"
I nodded, looking down at my lap and then up at my dad. "I know you love me dad, I know how much you care about my brother and I. And how much you love mom. I know that when you punish me it's for my own good. And I know you're weary of technology and I respect that. It can be dangerous but it's also helpful. I know these things because you're my dad, and I love you." I said with a smile. Never able to look my father in the eye as I spoke.
He smiled and leaned down to kiss me on the top of the head. He rubbed my back a bit before settling into a comfortable position. By now everyone had gotten settled and the conversation was starting again. I took the chance to look over at the boy with the dimples. He smiled at me and I returned it before turning my attention back to the discussion.
