Dilan's POV

I leaned my head more comfortably on the palm of my hand and turned away from the adults. Away from Caroline, and away from the little girl. Away from everything. I stared straight out the window and wondered. Wondered what my mother was doing. What my sister was thinking. What Caroline really wanted to here. Why everyone was so focused and serious. Even Jade was! She never was, and that's what scared me most.

My ears blocked out every sound around me and I felt I can pass out just with the peacefulness my ears brought to me. My head clearing as easily as I exhaled slowly. I can hear my heart eating as I concentrated on just blocking everything out. I was at peace. Peace from all the voices. The tone of everyone's serious conversation, the squeak in the girls high pitched voice. The papers shuffling in my fathers hands.

It all went away, and I could've sworn I could just close my eyes and leave. Leave the planet and the room I was currently, then I snapped back to reality in a blink of an eye. My vision blurred for just a split second, then I turned to look back at Caroline and Jade. I thought, did they notice anything strange? But judging by their completely casual face, I knew they didn't notice a single thing.

I relaxed and slouched a bit before finally speaking. "Hey Caroline, so what have you heard so far. Judging by how curious and serious you are, I'm guessing you've had to pick up something, or are you good at nothing...?" I didn't mean for it to come out sharp, but that's how it left the tips of my lips. I wanted to sound teasing. To mess around with her, but it came out cold with a sprinkle of harsh.
