I open my eyes to the sun shining brightly through the curtains and the birds chirping outside in the beautiful blue sky.

Except not. I wish. I wake up to my stupid alarm blaring and vibrating right underneath my pillow.

"Shut up!" I whine, trying to ignore the sounds playing, but ALARMS are called annoying for a reason. They just don't shut up unless you make them. I wasn't yet accustomed to the art of ignoring alarm clocks early in the morning considering I hadn't been using them for all too long.

I never used to need to set an alarm when I lived with the boys. Their noise was always enough for my sleep to end.  But now even the sound of the busy downtown streets wasn't loud enough. Nothing was, since I moved to New York more than a year ago.

*Flashback*

"Are you sure you want to leave? Are you sure you're READY to leave?" Liam asked me as he handed over my handbag to me after putting the boarding pass in the front pocket.

"Liam" I put my hands on his shoulders and looked in his eyes. "I'm sure. This is what I've always wanted" I grinned at him as I finally received a smile back.

"Okay no sappy stuff now. Happy happy thoughts" Louis jumped in, breaking me and Liam apart. I turned to look around for Harry but couldn't find him anywhere. Disappointment surged through me. How could he do this to me? He hadn't spoken to me for almost 2 weeks, ever since I told him and the boys that I wanted to go to Music school in New York. And now, he didn't even show up at the airport to say goodbye. He wasn't the only one hurting.

Honestly, just like the boys, I felt it was too soon for me to leave after my surgery and all, but I was done with this sappy boring stuff. All I wanted was to finally get a start on my life.

I pushed the covers away from my body and headed straight to the kitchen. Most people have a rule, only to eat after freshening up. Not me! What's the point of eating after brushing your teeth... they will just get dirty again.

I made myself a pot of coffee and dived into the cereal box that was left open on my small, round kitchen table. I looked at the clock and almost choked at how late I was. Along with university, I worked at the university's Starbucks to make some extra money and be able to pay a little bit of my apartment's rent. Uncle John had made it very clear that I didn't need to worry about money, and that he would take care of all the expenses, but that was asking too much of him. He'd already taken me in, let me stay in his house, sent me to New York, payed my university tuition and was paying for my apartment.

I put down my cereal box, and ran to the bathroom to take a 5 minute shower and get ready. I picked out some random black t-shirt with a band on it and dark skinny jeans. After grabbing my coffee and keys, I headed out to the bus stand hoping I could make the 7:00 bus.

"You're late... AGAIN, Daina!" My boss stared me down the second I opened the door of our coffee shop.

"Sorry Josh, you know me. Never hear the alarm" I winked at him, earning a chuckle in response.

"We would hope the downtown noise would wake you up considering you live smack in the middle of the city... but nooo..." He replied sarcastically and rolled his eyes.

"That doesn't work on me Josh. I'm used to much worse." Saying those words made me think of all the different ways the boys had tortured me into waking up. I smiled to myself as I tied the green apron around my waist and tied up my wavy brown hair.

As 7:30 struck, a whole group of college students entered the café to get their drinks, getting ready for their 8 o clock classes.

"Dainaaa" I looked up from the coffee pot to see Jacob standing there. His baby face and beautiful features made me grin in familiarity. I got out from the baristas side of the counter and walked towards hum, engulfing him in a tight squeeze.

"Thank God you're here" I smiled at him. I said that to him every morning. There wasn't any reason for me to be unhappy without him, but Jacob just made everything better.

"I know, thank God I'm here to save you from yourself" He winked at me before pulling out his wallet and handing me a 5 dollar bill.

"The usual?" I asked. He nodded back at me and then proceeded to lean on the counter while I made his latte.

"So where is Queen May?" I asked Jacob.

"I have no idea. She said she'd meet us in class."

I frowned at his response. Along with Jacob, May was my other best friend. These 2 were the first people I met when I came to New York. And they were the first ones to make me laugh, and do all the fun things here. And just like that, we started spending all our time together. Every morning, the 3 of us met here at Starbucks to get some food, and head to class together.

"Well, o-okayyy. She never ditches?" I looked at him, questioning him for further details but all he did was shrug. Guess he couldn't answer the questions either.

"Ready to head out?" I nodded at him and handed him his drink. I looked around to see if my help was needed anywhere else but Josh nodded, gesturing that it was okay for me to leave a little bit early. I grabbed my stuff and we made our way to the door, stopping to say goodbye to a few people we knew.

"I cant believe you spend your spares working here!" Jacob exclaimed. He didn't have to work because he didn't need to worry about money. Jacob's dad was like a multi millionaire. He worked in some huge business corporation and Jacob being super smart in finance, had gotten a small job in the corporation while he was in high school. He saved up all the money he earned and was now living on top of the world.

"Some of us aren't multi millionaires" I replied sarcastically. He chuckled at my words and draped his arm over my shoulders.

"Well then, work all you'd like but I doubt a job in Starbucks is going to make you a multi millionaire any time soon"

I rolled my eyes at him as we entered the campus school's main campus lot.

"Hold it" I said, stopping suddenly. Jacob looked over at me to see if I was okay. I pointed ahead of us somewhere behind the field bleachers to show him 2 figures making out.

"That looks a lot like May..." Jacob said softly. I looked at him in confusion. May didn't have a boyfriend... Atleast none that we knew about.

"I'm going to kill her" I gritted my teeth as I started stomping towards the mysterious boy and lying best friend.

"Ahem ahem" I cleared my throat right when we were behind May and her secret boy. The two jumped in the air and instantly split apart.

"Jacob! Daina!" May exclaimed, bringing her hand up to her heart to calm it down. "What are you guys doing here?"

"Oh you know, we just saw you making out with some random guy and thought we should see what was going on." Jacob replied snarkily with a smirk on his face.

"U-uh guys.. this is Randy... um he's my.... friend." She stammered looking at us nervously.

"Your friend, huh?" I winked at her. "Hi Randy, I'm Daina Jackson. May's best friend. Who did not know about you by the way" I extended my hand to Randy but kept my glare fixed on May.

"Sorry guys... ummm... can we talk about this later?" I knew what May meant by this. This boy wasn't her boyfriend... yet. But he wasn't just a friend either. Jeez... boys and their need to complicate every situation.

"Well now that we've been introduced, ready to head to class? because I'm not the late type" Jacob spoke up. We giggled and nodded our heads as we said our goodbyes to Randy and walked away with Jake.

"A booooy huh?" I nudged May with my elbow.

She laughed and hooked our arms together "So you're fine with him then?" She looked into my eyes, with a smile playing at her lips.

"More than fine"

Sometimes your life takes unexpected turns on you...

I'm just glad mine took a good one when I came here.
