"You are a faerie, you are their faerie and you will be the best faerie this forest has ever seen," three year old Anabella told herself on her first day of school as she was standing in front of the big building with her parents.

"That is right Anabella, you are a faerie no matter what anybody says about you," her mother tells her with a bright smile for her child, although the smile did not reach her beautiful chocolate brown eyes. Mae was honestly scared and worried for her child, because even after three years Anabella still bore no mark and wore no wings on her back. Even after seeing many healers and countless experts on the topic of wings and marks they could find no evidence that this had happened before. Mae and Zedrich were losing hope with everyday that passed that Anabella would ever get a mark or even wings, that she would ever be normal, and they were worried how the other little faeries would treat their daughter in school.

In a gentle voice, making sure that she really did remember - and was not just lying when she had said she remembered earlier -  Zedrich asked his daughter, "Now angel, do you remember what we told you to say if any of the other kids ask you about your wings or mark?"

Rocking back and forth on her little feet with her tiny hands clasped in front of her she responded to her father, "Mmhm daddy, I remember. I say, 'I was not born with wings or a mark but I think that one day I will get them and be able to fly.'"

"Good. Now what do you say if they start being mean and make fun of you for it? What do we say then?" her mother asked.

"I say, 'wings and a mark don't make the faerie, the heart and soul does.' Did I do it right mommy and daddy? Did I get all the words?" Anabella asked her parents in an excited, eager voice with a twinkle in her eye and the brightest smile on her flawless face.

With a proud smile on their lips Mae and Zedrich reply together, "You did it perfectly sweetie." And her father continued talking saying, "Now, you go into school and we'll be back when it is done to pick you up. Okay?"

As the small child hugged her parents tight she said to them, "Okay. Love you mommy. Love you daddy." And with that she skipped into the school.
