It has been two weeks since Zedrich died.
Two weeks since Anabella has heard her daddy's voice, since her daddy has called her his little faerie.
It has been one week and five days since Anabella realized she will never hear her father speak again or hear those nicknames said to her in quiet rooms on dark nights.
One week and five days since he was burned on a pyre by his daughter's flames.
It has been two weeks since Zedrich James Cross was killed by people wanting to hurt Anabella, that knew her father was her weakness.
Anabella has been surrounded by darkness; it has become her new friend as she felt she did not deserve the warm touch of the sun after what she had caused to happen to her father. For the first time in eight years Anabella felt as though she was a monster; her birth, her powers, her control had led to the death of her own father and she felt that surrounded by the darkness she belonged.
It was surrounded by this darkness that she formed a plan to track and hunt down the men that had done this to her father and make them pay. People tried to talk her out of it, convince her that that was not what her dad would have wanted for her; that she was a kind person; that she has always had the will to keep on smiling and keep going, doing good deeds on her journey.
But, didn't they get it? She wanted to scream at them. Her father was her will, her father was what was good in her, her father kept her going, her father was the one that made her smile. Her father, her father, her father. That was the problem; her father was not there anymore to make her smile, to give her hope, to keep her going. No, he was dead, burned to ash all because of her and this broke her; it shattered her to pieces like a shard of ice. She no longer had the will to be good, to be kind, because what difference could she make if such cruelty already lived in the world? It is less work to join them than it is to fight them.
