"Happy Thanksgiving!" Jaycee said when she saw Jack from the lounge.

"Happy Thanksgiving!!" Jack responded with a gigantic smile on his face.

Memories of past Thanksgivings tried to slide their way in. Jack tried not to think of the fun times he had with all of his friends around the table, with Mark. Jack couldn't think of them, at least not today. He forced himself to have a good time today.

"Hey Jay," Jack said from the kitchen, where he was making coffee.

"Yeah," She replied as she switched on the TV.

"Let's do something different for Thanksgiving."

"What should we do?"

"I want to make dinner for everyone," Jack said confidentially.

Jack and Jaycee were hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for all of their friends. Felix, Ken, Wade, Bob, among other friends who weren't YouTubers were coming. A large crowd for one person to make dinner for. About 12 people total.

"Are you sure?" Jaycee asked doubtfully. "Do you want me to help you?"

"No." Jack replied confidently. It was going to be a challenge, that wasn't a question. Jack wanted to prove something to everyone showing up. He wanted to show that, despite everything he had been through, he could still do something correctly.

"Suit yourself," Jaycee said.

"Oh, I will." Jack replied cockily, joining Jaycee on the couch to watch the Friends Thanksgiving special.

The show ended and Jack glanced at the analog clock on the chestnut table next to him.

12:34 pm

The guests would arrive at 5 and the dinner would start at 8 so that everyone could catch up. The menu was a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey, ham, deviled eggs, rolls and butter, amongst other foods.

"I'm proud of you Jack," Jaycee said. "I know you can do this,"

"I do to," Jack said.

~****~

Jack and Jaycee had watched TV until 2. That's when Jack decided he'd start baking. He decided to start on the turkey and ham because they were the main dishes.

"How's it going?" Jaycee asked Jack from the sitting room.

"It's going great!" Jack answered cheerfully.

"You want my help?"

"Never,"

Ding-Dong

Jayee got up to get the door. Jack was perfectly on schedule, just finishing the deviled eggs, then checking the turkey.

"Hey, Waders!" Jack called from the kitchen when he heard one of his best friends from hall. He quickly went to hug him.

"Sorry it's been a while," Wade said.

"Hey," Jack said. "I know it has, buddy. It won't be much longer next time."

"Why don't you come sit down?" Jaycee said.

"Okay," Wade replied.

As Jack returned to cooking, he heard the voices on the TV. Of course, it was A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. It was one of Jaycee's family traditions. Jack chuckled lightly at that thought, although he didn't know exactly. Maybe it was his outlet for staying sane. He knew Mark would have helped him cook. He didn't tell Jaycee, but it was one of his and Mark's traditions. He didn't want to remember the first Thanksgiving he had with Mark. Or the second, or the third, or the last.

"Jack!" Mark called.

Jack had "accidentally" hit Mark with some cranberry sauce.

"Sorry," He said playfully. "It was an accident."

"I'll show you an accident!" Mark said as he rubbed butter into Jack's hair.

Laughter was all that could be heard.

Jack shook his head and wiped his eyes.

Tears.

Jack couldn't let Jaycee see. He darted to the bathroom. He locked the door and turned to the mirror. He saw the Thanksgiving with Mark. It was like some Life Is Strange picture jump scenario. He just couldn't go into the "picture". As much as he wanted to.

Ding-Dong

Jack left the bathroom to go get the door. It was Felix, Ken, and Bob. They had all rode together. Everyone else had already showed up and were talking with Jaycee. They all greeted each other and Jack went to set the table.

"Ready!" Jack called to Jaycee.

She got up and ushered everyone to the dining area. Jack, being the seven year old he was, made hand-turkey placemats for everyone. They all laughed when they saw what he did. Jack decided he'd start a new tradition for everyone. He made everyone write down what they were thankful for and put them into a hat. They would then pass the hat around, pick a piece of paper, and read it outloud.

Jack put "butter" on his piece.

Only Felix and Ken got the reference. Everyone else thought he was just being funny.

Laughter was all that could be heard.
