**UPDATED**
Dark stained doors line the hallway that's coated with a musty sent, each one having a black metal plate stating the numbers. I notice the numbers slowly descending as we continue down the dim lit hall. I watch them count down; 468, 467, 466, there are so many. My eyes shoot down to the floor as a tall brown haired boy passes me, he gave me a small smile right before my head shot down. Great, now I can get fake friends just because I'm the new girl. My plan here didn't involve socializing at all, I could survive just fine without it before.
"And here is your dorm room, I know it's only high school, but since you cannot leave campus you are going to need somewhere to stay." The annoying blonde that was told to show me to my room blurts, and of course my mom had to tag along. I realize she's my mother and all but I just want some space, a lot has happened in the last 48 hours.
With a roll of my eyes I push through push past my mom who's annoyingly crowding the doorway and into my new room.
"Well this is... Nice..." My mother blankly states.
"Yeah mom so are cockroaches, they're real nice." with another roll of my eyes I plop down on the bed to examine the room that I will be staying in for god knows how long.
It's not too bad, other than the horrible stink that I can't quite match... although that stench can be smelt all through the building. The faint sent is still present through the stink, I've never smoked before but have a strong feeling I will sooner or later. It looks like an average dorm, ones I've seen on collage websites. The room is painted a dark brown with black framed windows, not the most appealing colors but I like the dark tint it gives. My eyes travel to what must be my room mates side. She seems to be fairly normal and put together, unless she just hasn't decorated all the way yet. I keep having to remind myself everyone here in in here for a reason, just like me. I really hope she isn't annoying and stuck up, that's the last thing I need. Obviously my hopes of having a room to myself were shattered quick. My thoughts are interrupted by a tall curly haired boy entering the room and standing before my mother with a cheeky smile.
"And who might you be? And why are you sneaking around the girls dorms?" my mother questions the boy who seems to care less what anyone thinks judging from his gray sweatpants and black hoodie, he could probably hate this place just as much as me.
I can't help but think of how attractive he is, however I would never be open about that I don't even know who he is. Although who can look that good in sweats, I can only imagine what he must look like in jeans.
"Who I am is none of your business. And this happens to be my room too." He lowers his eyes and scowls at my mother.
I have a sudden urge to grab some popcorn and enjoy the show of my mother fighting with... my roommate? Why do I have a boy for a roommate I thought that boys and girls-
"I forgot to mention at this school we don't feel the need to separate genders. We trust the students enough to allow it." For once I am glad this annoying blonde says something worth my while, although the idea of having to convicts of opposite gender together doesn't seem to smart.
"You trust a bunch of crazy criminal teenagers with such a big responsibility?!" my mother is clearly about to lose her shit. "Come on Shannon we are leaving right now!"
"Just a reminder, I can't go to any other school. I'm not stable enough remember?" a deep scowl spreads across my mothers face as she lowers her eyes to meet mine.
"Right because you can't keep your act together just because of a dumb pier picking on you!" She raises her voice stepping forward to me, for the most part I can keep my cool but I guess this is when I snap.
"A pier picking on me?! Are you fucking kidding me! She has been doing shit to me for over four years now and you have the nerves to say this is my fault? Maybe instead of ignoring me and hanging out with your dumb new boyfriend we wouldn't even be in this mess!" I let out a deep breathe and force my mouth shut before I say something I'll regret, then I think of something.
"Do not raise you voice at me missy! If you use language like that again I'm am going to really give it to you, I have half a mind not to do it right now!" she proudly remarks crossing her strongly thin arms over her chest.
"Didn't hold you back before." I whisper under my breathe, the boy looks up at me obviously hearing my quiet statement. As if she smacked me across the face with only her words I stand from the bed and push my lips into a straight line and almost as a whisper I say "Goodbye mother."
She struts out the door slamming the small frame behind her I begin to regret her leaving on bad terms, but it quickly disappears when I glance down at my arm the dark bruises clear. I yank my sleeves down.
"Well that was intense as fuck, I'm Harry by the way." my roommate states with an award winning smile, showing off his pearly whites.
To be totally honest I completely forgot he was present in my.. our room. "I'm Shannon, nice to meet you." I try my best to fake a smile, it doesn't work. To cover up I push my hand forward to shake his.
He pretends he doesn't notice my attempt at a smile thank god. Gladly pushing his hand to meet mine.
"The pleasures all mine." Harry states sending a swift wink at me. My stomach flutters under his gaze. He brings my hand up to his mouth gently kissing my knuckles. "So what was all of that about anyway?"
I really don't want to talk about this right now. "Oh just some things happened at my old school that she wasn't to fond of." Yeah like rumors of murder and stuff like that no biggie.
"Oh right I feel ya I'm here because I murdered my English teacher." He has a totally blank expression on his face. I can feel the blood from my face flee, leaving my pale and wary.
"Uh, wh-what?" I stand up from the bed my mouth practically on the floor and my eyes wide open.
"I'm just joking with you! Geez calm down, you should have seen the look on your face! Absolutely horrified, just perfect." His head falls back as his laughter fills the room.
"Yeah that's how I felt too." I laugh and sit back down, my heart still skipping every other beat from that 'joke'. My nerves calm as I let out a shaky sigh.
"Well I'll be going now. Just a heads up I'm not in the room to often so don't get to worried." As quick as he arrived he's gone and out of sight when I glance down the hall.
I lay back on the bed and pull out my phone to call my mom, thinking again I put my phone on my bed without calling and begin to unpack. I fill the dresser on my side and am tempted with the idea to fill Harry's too considering him not being in the room often as an advantage. Deciding against it I pull my long black hair to the top of my head in a messy bun and begin planning out in my head what to do next.
Touring campus comes to mind, however I'm exhausted from the flight here. Eventually I just decide to take a nap. I lay on the chilled white mattress and shut my eyes, bidding sleep into my mind. What feels like five minutes into my nap there's a loud knocking, no smashing at my door. I jump up and out of bed to fling open the door to find Harry rushing into the dorm, slamming the door behind him with blood all over his hands and dripping from his mouth and nose.
"Holy shit!"
