Lena and Ray was on their way to save John with a truck.
Ray : I can't believe I'm doing this. Lena : Thanks anyway. Ray : I'm not sure if we'd make it out alive.
While chattering, the couple aren't realize the presence of someone nearby. When it's almost too late, Ray saw a man shrouded in cloth were standing in the middle of the road. He hits the break but the truck was moving too fast. When the truck is about to hit the man, the man stopped the truck with his mind, and leaving the couple speechless. Ray grabs his gun and get himself out of the truck, Lena soon follow. Ray is approaching him slow and cautious as he was too surprised.
MAN : Stop! Ray : What was that?! Are you some kind of mutant?! MAN : Let me explain. [unveil his hood] Ray : You look familiar.... Lars : My name is Lars. Ray : Aren't you one of the president's dog? Lars : Abandoned, dog. Ray : But that didn't explain what you just did back there! Lars : I will but first, get me to Jake. Lena : Why should we trust you, Lars? Lars : Believe me, Jake is in danger and he need help.
They get back into the truck and start moving.
Lena : Tell us, Lars. Who are you? I mean, precisely what are you? Ray : The president killed you back then but how did you live? Lars : He killed me, indeed but that doesn't stop him from experimenting and improving his secret project. Ray : Project DAWN, am I right? Lars : There's a human named Baz who was sentenced to death by lethal injection. The president decided to inject directly virus DIE into the man's body and he's became the first mutant which granted him enormous leap in physical strength but he was just a brawn without a brain. But, when they heard the news about Jake being infected and hasn't mutate, they are puzzled by the nature of the virus. Ray : And the experiment succeed. Lars : Yes. Now, hurry!
Meanwhile......
John lie down on the building floor and gasping for air.
John : I might be dead if this is keep going....[inhale] Fuck me.
A footstep can be heard climbing the stairs toward him. John get himself up and make a run away from coming footstep. Jake appear from the staircase and plunge himself toward John. John dodge it and punch Jake to the ground. Jake pulls his leg and drag him on the floor and slam him against the wall. John tried to get up but his body is too weak due to sustained injuries.
John : God damn it. I'm getting rusty.
Jake walk towards him and carry a steel bar along the way. John turns his head side-way and he saw a bag of C4. He grab the bag and run past through Jake and all the way to the top floor.
John : I hope this work.
He deploys those C4 on each pillar he found. Suddenly Jake burst through the floor. Moment before John able to deploy the last C4, Jake drive the steel bar through John's shoulder and pin him against the wall. Jake pulls John closer and moment before he throws his punch, he feels stiffed. Lars is just in time to stop Jake with his mind but Jake's strength was too power for him to hold. Jake throw the punch but John was not there. He look around and John was gone.
Lars : Listen, Jake! Jake : [growl] Lars : You can do this, just keep resist the urges!
Jake let out a roar followed by his scream.
Jake : I.....CAN'T..... Lars : Keep trying! Jake : [groan] Ju...st...go...! [demonic voice] I can't control it!
With sudden move, Jake charge towards Lars and Lars able to stand his ground. While both of the hybrids trading punches, Ray lean John against the wall.
Ray : You'll be fine, John. John : I told you to leave the city, why would you come back? Lena : Because I can't lose you, dad. John : Lena...? Lena : Jake.... John : Get back to the truck, both of you. I've got a fight to end. Lena : Dad! Please, come with us. John : Dear, I've lost your mother once. I'll make sure it won't happen again. Lena : Dad!!
John grabs the bag of last C4 and run all the way back to the top. When he reach the top floor, he saw Jake was holding Lars by the ledge of an empty frame. John placed the last C4 on the wall beside him and show Jake the detonator.
John : Don't make me do this, Jake.
Suddenly a steel bar pierce through John's back and he fall to his knee. Jake toss Lars off the building and walk toward John. He lift him up.
John : Son....
A tear is flowing through Jake's eye and he grabs John's hand. He saw the detonator at his father hand. John sadly nods. He toss John out of the building and John push the button.

Luckily his falling was cushioned by soft grass and he watches the building engulfs in flame which soon collapse. Lena and Ray pull John back into the truck and leaving the city. John lay himself at the back of the truck and watch as the sun rise from east. He touch his chest and there are so much blood. He can feel his time has come. At least he know that Jake realize who he was before his death. John look up to the sky and smile.
