5.5: spring cleaning

Jade's pov:
Today's one of the days that I don't like every year. It's Sunday on the first week of June. Which means, it's spring cleaning. Daphne arranged the date. Twice a year, we'll do a spring cleaning day.

So we'll have to clean the living room, sweep the floors then mop it clean, wash the toilets, get rid of the dust on the fan and on top of the cupboards, clean the windows, rearrange the living room, clean the kitchen, sweep the backyard and front yard. And last but not least, clean our bedrooms. it's really tiring, but together, we would always finish it in time for a movie night.

I was woken up by Daphne, clanging the kitchen pan and a ladle together. "Wake up, sleepy heads. It's time to do some work! Today's Sunday, so You know what that means. Now get ready girls! I'll be preparing breakfast today. Come on, wake up!" Shouted Daphne, ear-deafening.

I slugged myself to the bathroom and took a shower. I brushed my teeth, washed my face and got dressed. I slip into my shorts and my white "I love you" long sleeve shirt which I rolled it up to my elbows. I left my hair down and smiled to my reflection on my full body length mirror.

I head to the kitchen to be greeted by my friends. "good morning" said Daphne, happily sliding pancakes on Selena's plate. "look who's early" said Hayley, sarcastically.

I couldn't help but smile at her sarcasm. "morning guys. one plate of pancakes please" I said to daphne. "coming right up" she answered and prepared my breakfast.

"right. so, I'll be sorting out tasks for us to do, today. Selena and Hadley will clean the living room and the toilets, Daphne will clean the backyard, I will clean the front yard, and Jade will clean the kitchen" said Hayley. "oh, I've already made a check list at every checkpoints so you guys'll have to tick them when you've done the chores given. alright everyone, chop chop! let's get cleaning!" urged Daphne.

We all started to do our chores, quickly and by noon, we were already half done. As for me, I was nearly done. cause I only have to clean the kitchen.

wash the dishes? check. wipe the dishes? check. sort the dishes? check. what else? ah! there's still some plates on the dining table that needs to be washed. I went to the dining table to see more dishes on the table.

"what the-" I said. "where did these come from?" I asked Selena who was rearranging the dvd's in the living room. "oh, Daphne put them there. she said it was from yesterday's party she had with Henry at the back yard" she said. seriously Daph? ugghh. she had to make my life harder.

I got all the dishes on the dining table and placed them in the sink. As I was scrubbing the stains on a plate, the door bell rang. I turned to the living room to see that selena was on a ladder wiping off dust on the fan, Hadley was taking a nap on the sofa and Hayley went upstairs to fetch a few things so no one was able to get the door.

I washed my hands and went to get the door. I opened it to see a handsome Alex smiling right at me. "H-hi, Alex. What're you doing here?" I said nervously. "Hey Jade. Hayley told me you guys are doing some cleaning. So I thought I'd stop by and help a little. Do you mind?" He said. "N-no! Of course. I don't mind. Please, come in" I invited, and he went in. "Hi Alex" greeted Selena who was on top of the ladder. "I'll help you up there" said Alex. "Oh, no. It's fine. I'm almost finished" said Selena assuringly.

I went back to the kitchen and continued my washing. He must've come to see Hayley. There's no way he would come to see me. I finished soaping all the dishes and was beginning to rinse it off when suddenly a deep voice from behind came ringing in my head. "What're you doing Jade?" I was surprised and dropped the plate I was holding back to the sink.

"Alex! You nearly scared the wits out of me!" I shouted. He laughed and looked back at me. "Isn't it obvious. I'm washing the dishes. Geez" I  murmured the last part. "Oh come on. can't I play on a joke or two?" He pouted. It looks cute on him. "Well you should play it on a suitable time. Not when people's doing their chores. Especially chores with plates. You should help for once in a while" I advised.
