Chapter 1

I sit here on the bench watching him show off to all his friends. Wow, how can a guy like him, so handsome, so cute, be stuck in a poor school like this? I’m day dreaming again about him. I really wish I would stop this but he’s just so gorgeous.

I’m sitting on the bench alone just watching his every move with my note pad on my lap. I’m not a drawer; I'm terrible at all that, I’m a writer. I wish I could draw but everything just looks horrible when I draw. So instead I just write anything I want.

“Hey Kay!” my best friend, Jessica shouts.

My real name is Kyla but everyone calls me Kay. I don’t mind the nickname, in fact, I've never really thought about it before, I just accepted it.

I jump at the sound of her voice. “Jessica! You scared me, don’t do that!” I say, smiling at her.

She laughs and sits down next to me. “Sorry Kay. So what’re you up to?” she asks looking down at my empty notebook. Jessica tends to try and read whatever I write even if I say it’s private but that never stops her so I just end up letting her look.

I turn my head away from her and go back to looking at him. His name is Felix and man does the name suit him. Felix has black hair, green eyes, nice body and is in every single way perfect. He is the most popular guy in school and doesn’t have a girlfriend. No one knows why he doesn’t, not even his closest friends. Every girl that asks him out always ends up getting rejected. All the girls love the look of him but his personality no one is really a fan of. I, personally, don’t understand what’s wrong with it, he’s smart, nice, never mean, treats all girls respectfully and doesn’t flirt that much. What’s wrong with that? I think that’s perfect!

Jessica catches me looking somewhere and tries to follow my eyes but she’s terrible at these things. “Are you looking at Mr. Kennedy and Miss Marple make out?” she asks, really confused.

I start laughing at how silly she can be. When I calm down I answer her question. “No stupid, I’m staring at you-know-who again.” I say, still giggling.

“Oh,” she says in realisation, “I was gonna say!” Jessica starts laughing herself. We continue laughing for a few seconds before we calm down.

“Why don’t you just go hurry up and ask him out?” Jessica says. She never shuts up about this because she really wants me to get together with Felix.

“Like I’ve said before and will a thousand times more, I don’t want to because he’s rejected so many girls and I'm scared of getting hurt. Plus if on the very, very, VERY tiny chance that he likes me back, I want him to ask me out because I like it when guys do that.” I say looking back at Felix…again.

“Hey! The start of that rhymed! You should become a poet.”

I poke my tongue out at her. “I told you, I'm a writer, nothing else. Anyway…” I say, wanting her to continue.

“Anyway, come on Kay. It’s been months and you haven’t done anything about that little crush you have! He probably likes you anyway seeing as you’re smoking hot!”

“I am not!” I shout back.

Jessica laughs. “You are so! I don’t care if you don’t believe me because it’s true.”

I sigh and take one last glance at Felix as the bells goes. He’s attempting to do the worm but fails and falls on the floor laughing with all his other friends. As he gets up, he looks over towards me; smiles and winks at me. I can feel my heart racing and I smile back before he turns to his friends and they all start walking off to class.

Did I just dream that? I ask myself over and over again. I can’t believe he just winked and smiled at me!

“What are you so happy about?” Jessica asks me as we stand up and head to class.

“Nothing,” I reply easily and maybe a little too quickly.

“Oh no, come Kay, spit it out, why are you suddenly smiling so much? And blushing! Oh my god! Come on just tell me!” Jessica starts jumping up and down in excitement.

“Jessica, quit jumping because you look weird, stop squealing and follow me to the bathroom.” I say quickly.

Jessica nods; I smile and we both race to the bathroom.

“Okay, now tell me!” Jessica squeals as I shut and lock the door.

“Alright, Felix just smiled and winked at me!” I say squealing back.

“Oh my god, he so likes you! He doesn’t do that to anyone!”

“I know! Do you think he’ll ask me out?” I ask, wondering out loud.

“Totally,” Jessica says and we both run out of the door, late for class as usual.
