After fighting with Mikey, I decided to skip school for the day. I walked straight ahead, not sure of my destination. It finally occured to me where I was going to. My special spot in the woods. Where I always went for inpiration for my drawings and my songs. It was my peaceful place and I've always been alone there.
I keept walking, taking turns when necessary. I finally found my clearing in the center and sat down on the bench. It had always been there, and I wondered who put it there. It was old, and it was starting to rust. Engraved on the back said "For my love" with no year or signature. It had always made me think, made me wonder. I heard the crunching of leaves and looked around. My eyes stopped on a boy, it was Frank.
Frank's POV
I stopped. Gerard was sitting on the bench I always sat on. The woods were my sanctuary, my getaway, my safe place. I thought Gerard knew that. How did he find this place?
"How did you find this?" I asked.
"What do you mean? I've been coming here forever."
"But I've always come here. Gerard, you know the woods are my safe place."
"Frank, there are plenty of woods in our city. How am I supposed to know this was what you were referring to?"
"I don't know! If you've been coming here for so long, how come I've never seen you here before?"
"Because, I always come here during the day."
"So do I, but more towards afternoons."
"In the afternoons, I take walks around the city."
"What about school? Shouldn't you be there?"
"Eh, like they care. And I got in a fight with Mikey. Shouldn't I ask you the same thing?"
"Well, I dropped out. Why did you get in a fight with Mikey?"
"Because, well, uh, because I didn't want cereal."
"That sounds dumb. Not everyone likes cereal."
"Exactly... I guess. That's not really what I was referring to, but yeah."
"What were you referring to?"
"I, uh, don't eat often."
"Gerard..."
"Yeah-"
"Come here."
Gerard stood up and walked over to me. I hugged him. I hugged him so tight and I didn't want to let go.
"Why Gerard?"
"No one wants me. No one cares. Mikey is the only one who cares, but he just feels sorry for me. I want someone to love me. After all, look at me, I'm ugly."
I looked at Gerard. He was skinny, too skinny, he needed to eat. He was broken, damaged in so many ways. I wanted to hold him forever and make sure no one ever hurt him. I knew him for a while, and I knew I had to help.
"Do you want out of there?"
"Out of where?"
"Your house."
"I want to leave there, but I havd no where to go."
"You can come stay with me. You can have a place to sleep, food and drink, which I will make you eat, and my family is really loving. They're really nice people. And plus, you'll have me. You've known me for a while Gerard, and I've kinda liked you for a while-"
"Wait what?"
"Oh my God I am so sorry I didn't mean for that to slip out of my mouth."
"No, it's okay."
A tear slipped down his cheek as we walked over to the bench. We sat down and he started crying, hard.
"What's the matter?"
"No one, no one has ever cared about me," he choked out through sobs.
"I was once in your place. I love you too much to let you be in pain."
"Yo-you love me?"
"Yes, Gerard, I love you very much."
"I love you too Frank."
Gerard lay in my arms and slowly drifted off to sleep.
