Star. I laid on my back on my bed. Josh told me her name, Star Greene. Couldn't be related to the old family that lived here? I frowned trying to remember. They were Irish and came from strong bloodlines, old Conor and Rebecca Greene. Last I recall Conor was dead from an attack of rogues, and Rebecca never came to meetings anymore. Couldn't be though...Star smelled like a human. "Ughhhh!" I yelled out in frustration and threw a pillow at the wall.
Didn't Rebecca have a son? maybe he mated with a human. I thought the almighty alpha knew all. Nates voice rang out in my head. Shut up before I go downstairs and kick your lights out bro. I sent back to him smirking. Oui! Some people are trying to sleep!! Alex's voice yelled, another pack member. Damn the pack house. A con sometimes of being alpha, a lot of the members stayed in your house.
Mate. I finally found mine. Smiling like an idiot I couldn't wait to talk to her. God she was beautiful.Her eyes bruned into my mind and I couldnt stand it anymore. I had to go see her, getting out bed I shrugged out of my clothes and shifted out the window. Lead me to her I told my wolf Gladly it replied with enthusiasm. Nate told me where the Greene house was before telling me before he passed out. Running I finally reached the house, I was tempted to go near a window but that would be kinda pervish.
A noise from a balcony on the third floor caught my attention, the sliding door opened slowly and there she was. I had to fight down my wolf from making me get any closer. Staring at her I noticed a tear fall down her face and she started smoking a cigarette. I didn't know she smoked, huh. I suddenly felt this overwhelming pain in my chest. I stumbled back a little and snapped a twig in the process.
Looking back up I saw her face turn from sad to shocked and then a little scared. Nooo dont go back in I thought. Fuck. My mom told me about mates emotional link, I would feel her happines and sadness. But why was her pain so great? what was causing it. Taking one more look at where she was before I howled and ran off back to my house.
The next morning I woke up and felt the pain briefly in my chest again. Frowning I got up and got dressed. What was making her so sad I wondered. Shit went by pretty fast. Classes were a bore as always and Josh was being a little distant with me. He must have had a crush on Star or something, and sulking cause she ended up being my mate. I swear I never been so anxious for gym to come around.
Finally the bell rang and it was time for last period. I nearly ran there got changed and waited for everyone to come in. A few girls batted their lashes at me and tried striking up a converstation but I ignored them, anxiously staring at the door. After a few minutes I finally smelled a sweet strawberry smell, looking up I noticed her walking to the changing rooms. Damn. When she finally came out Fletcher yelled for everyone to head out and run again. Pretending to tie my shoe I got up once she started walking past me.
When we were outside I turned to her with a smile and said "Hey I'm Ethan, I'm impressed you run faster than many guys" She turned her face and the smile quickly fell off my face. Her eyes were red and swollen, looked like she tried hiding it but failed. "Are you okay?" My eyebrows raising in concern. She bit her lip and looked down and then started jogging. Damn, why wouldn't she reply.
Confused I started jogging after her "Hey you know I'm all ears if you need to talk". With that she started smiling and then stopped running. Grabbing her phone out of her pocket she started texting someone I thought but she brought the phone up to my face. It said " Well then I guess the guys here are weak & I'm fine just a bad day. Oh and um...I'm mute."
My heart sank, Mute? I would never hear her voice. Looking back at her eyes I could see the pain still there. Damn Josh for not telling me this. "So have you always been..mute?" I asked her curiously, hoping that I wouldn't offend her. She started texting again while we walked slowly, letting people run past us. She showed me the phone and it said "No, I used to be able to talk. Well until last winter."
That pained look crossed her face and I felt it in my chest again. I don't know why but she looked so vulnerable I stopped and pulled her into a hug. She started to pull away slightly but then hugged me back and we stayed like that till Fletcher yelled that it was time to go. She pulled away kind of red in the face mouthed thanks. Walking with her back I realized then there's hope she can talk again.
Just maybe.
