The room was dark when Caitlin opened her eyes. "How long did I slept?" She asked no one in particular. Caitlin stood up from the bed, trying to find her watch, when she saw a fire burning in the living room. "That's a nice service" she mumbled. Personal had already lit the fire, to get the room cosy and warm before she would wake up. Caitlin opened the doors to the salon and saw Eliza sitting in the chair in front of the fireplace, her legs curled up underneath her and her head against the back of the chair. As Caitlin got closer, she could see Eliza had been crying. Stripes of her black make-up were visible on her cheeks. Although she was sleeping, her breathing was still irregular. Even in her sleep, she was influenced by the emotions which ruled her personal life. Caitlin pushed a lock of hair from her face and stared at her friend. If she would only realize herself, how beautiful she actually is, Caitlin thought with pain in her heart. She shouldn't let her husband patronize her like that. She smiled cynically. Didn't George treated Ashley exactly the same?
Caitlin thought about her experiences with Eliza till so far. The times they spoke to each other, Eliza often joked about situations in life, regardless if it concerned her or others. Because of that, Caitlin had only seen her with a beautiful smile on her face and naughty looking eyes. She realized now, this had only been a way for her, to cover up how miserable she actually felt in real life. Others didn't had the slightest idea of her situation at home. She always looked happy. Though as it turned out to be, Eliza's situation was the same as hers.
Caitlan sat down on her knees in front of the chair. The flickering light of the fire got reflected on Eliza's pale skin. Her beautiful black hear got a mysterious glow by the light of the fire. As she sat down on the floor, she lay her head against Eliza's legs. She closed her eyes to enjoy the warmth of the fire.
Caitlin felt completely at ease, when suddenly fingers slowly stroke her hair. "Hi sweetheart, finally awake?" She heard Eliza ask her. Caitlin looked up and nodded. "Why have you been crying?" She asked Eliza softly and lay her hand on her knee. "Do you want to talk about it?" Eliza shook her head. "Maybe it's better I don't." "We wanted to have a relaxed and nice weekend." Her face was covered by emotions and there was nothing more Caitlin wanted at this moment, than making her best friend feel better again. Talking about what bothered her, was probably the best way to achieve this. She took Eliza's hand and strangled her fingers through hers, while looking her straight into her eyes. "Listen sweetie, we're going to have lots of fun together, but not without taking away the pain first." "Let me help you." "Please tell me what's wrong."Eliza told Caitlin her whole story. She told her, how her husband abused her, ignored her, never had any respect for her and how he had lots of girlfriends on the side. All of this started, the moment the doctor told them they probably couldn't have any kids of their own. He blamed it all on Eliza, even if there wasn't any medical prove for that. Eliza stared at their strangled hands and whispered "He only wanted me to have his kids, but I'm not even good enough for that." "He doesn't love me Caitlan." Caitlin felt heartbroken when she saw the intense pain in Eliza's eyes. She couldn't understand that Eliza's husband wasn't able to see the beauty she saw in the woman here in front of her.
She took a deep breath and answered "Sweetheart, it's the same here." "George behaves exactly the same, like I told yesterday." "But you know what you should do?" Caitlin got a naughty smile on her face when she said, "Find yourself a cute new lover, who can give you these kids and tell him it's his." "This way you'll get a great love life and you can still enjoy all the money he possesses." Eliza started to laugh. Soft at first and than louder and louder. "Well dear, I have to find me a new man than, but it must be a fine specimen." She said smiling and blinked at Caitlan with a very naughty look in her eyes. "Hmm I know, we'll see." Caitlan lay her head against Eliza's lap again and stared into the fire. She already found that man, but would he be good to her heart?
