Newton A.F.SCAMANDER

☽☽☽

It was the middle of October when Newt had come back to Leonora, when she was walking to potions with Charles, he had asked for a private talk with her after class.

Embarrassed, he had walked away before she could reply, regretting going up to her, she had probably forgotten that she owed him one, or maybe she was joking!

How Stupid!

Newt hurried down the window lit corridor, his footsteps echoing from the cobblestone walls as he raced towards the Hufflepuff common room, having a free period.

He still couldn't believe what he'd done, and a look of embarrassed agony passed over his face as he thought of what he had yet to ask her.

"Why would I do that?" He muttered, running a shaking hand through his caramel curls, and rushing down the marble steps, mumbling greetings to the portraits as he passed them.

He stood in front of a stack of chestnut coloured barrels, he hurriedly tapped the middle of the second row while humming 'Helga Hufflepuff' to get it right, even after five years of the same thing.

The lid swung open and Newt uttered a thanks to the inanimate object as he crawled through.

The small tunnel opened up to a welcoming and earthy room, with circular windows that showed the view outside of rippling grass and dandelions, and emitted a sunny feeling in the round room.

He dodged the little yellow trinkets that hung from the low ceiling as he went to his favourite squashy yellow arm chair, falling back onto it with a contented sigh.

As he spread his long legs out in front of him on the carpet beside the fire, he began picking with the black thread lining, as he always did.

He looked up at the large honey coloured mantlepiece, at the carved badgers beneath the portrait of Helga Hufflepuff and began bouncing his leg nervously.

She'd think he was weird, if she didn't already, and probably make an even bigger joke out of himself.

The other people in the common room were just a few first to third years, finishing off homework for their next class that they left to last minute.

He glanced down at his schoolbag and thought about doing some of his own homework, but ultimately felt too uncomfortable to even try. So he settled on just picking the threading of the arm chair until it was time to go down to the lake and meet Leonora.

He sat on the soft grass underneath a large oak tree by the lake, the sun radiating a warm glow over the water, enabling Newt to see the creatures under it.

When he heard heavy breathing coming towards him, he looked up, bewildered, and came face to face with a sweaty, quidditch uniform wearing Leonora.

Newt's heart raced in his chest, looking up at the sight before him. He wasn't expecting this.

"I didn't want to keep you waiting by changing," She said with a small smile, before plopping down beside him, leaning back onto her hands while turning her face to the sky.

"So, whats up Scamander?" She said, twisting her head to look at him, ponytail swinging.

"Well, a while ago you said I could ask a favour?" Said Newt, licking his lips worriedly.

Leonora nodded for him to go on.

"I.. Need help with something..." He said slowly, eyes not meeting hers.

"Spit it out, Scamander." She laughed, urging him to go on with a hand gesture.

"I need help with... dating." He sighed, putting his palms over his quickly turning scarlet face.

Leonora's grin faltered, a small 'o' taking its place.

"Alright," She said, nodding with bright eyes.

"W-what?" Newt couldn't believe it, he took a chance to look at her to see her grinning like a child on Christmas, her bright emerald eyes shining.

"So, by you need help, do you mean, like, you need taught things or you need help to impress someone, or maybe you wanna make someone jealous? That's not a good thing to do, though, I don't recommend that," She began to ramble on, her hands going wild every time she came up with a new theory, making Newt blush once more.

"I-I- I don't know," Newt buried his face in his hands, making Leonora tilt her head at him, confused.

"Aw, what? How about all of them! I'll date you while showing you the ropes to impress someone!" She wrapped her arms around Newt's shoulders, slowly bringing his arms away from his face.

Newt looked at her, cheeks slowly starting to fade back to their natural shade, and a small smile rested on his lips. She really wasn't judging him.

She was rambling on and on about the things they'd do and planning the next Hogsmeade trip, and always turning to him to see his reaction, which made Newt really smile.

Either she had no shame or she was an absolute idiot who would agree to anything, but Newt supposed that's what being Gryffindor was all about.
