Chapter 11
* Tarynn's POV *
2 days later, we were all back in school on the most dreaded day of the week - Monday. I unlocked my locker and took out some books. What I realized though, was that on top of my books laid a flyer of some sort with the President's face printed on the piece of paper.
"The President is coming to Alfalon Institution! The President is coming!"
I looked around to see that one of my schoolmates was running down the corridors, screaming at everyone, telling them that the President was about to visit our school.
"Heard the news yet?" asked Zoey as she came to me.
"Of course, the news broadcaster is pretty loud," I replied as I shut my locker.
"Looks like the President is visiting our school. Have you ever met him before?" she asked me.
Come to think of it, I had just transferred to this school a while back and was all along in a different state.
"No, actually. I've never seen him before."
"Well, you're going to be seeing him much more often from now on. He visits our school every year."
"Really? Does he visit all the other schools every year as well?"
"Well, yes he does. But, he spends the most time at our school because his child lives here," said Zoey.
"I didn't know that! Who's the President's child?" I asked her curiously.
Just as she opened her mouth, the bell suddenly rang, cutting her off. She squirmed in annoyance and proceeded to check the timetable in her little notebook.
"We'll talk about that later. We've got chemistry class next and you know how Mr. Lancaster can be," she said as she pulled me away.
"Hey, wait up."
Drake came jogging towards us and started to walk with us in the same direction. We proceeded to go to the chemistry lab and quickly put our things down as class began.
Clearing his voice, Mr. Lancaster spoke. "Today, we'll be doing pair work so please get into pairs."
The students bustled around before settling on their seats. I looked around for Zoey but then realized that she was already sitting with Zeth and they were already scrutinizing their worksheets. I stared at Zeth, being so friendly to Zoey by passing her a pencil and all.
Stupid lab-partner-to-be stealer.
"Alright students, enough with the noise. Tarynn, it looks like you're a loner and so you can do the experiment alone," said Mr. Lancaster.
Though I didn't see the need to point that out, it was true so there was no point arguing. And anyway, he was known to be one of the few teachers in this school that paid no attention to the students' reputation. He was basically mean to everyone.
"Follow the instructions on the given worksheet and since this is an experiment that we have done before, I expect there to be minimal mistakes."
With that, the lab fell into silence as everyone started on their tasks.
Today, we were going to retrieve a lead iodide precipitate. Taking a deep breath, I scanned through the instructions and looked at the materials I was given. On the table lay some chemicals, a measuring cylinder, pipette, burette, some test tubes and a Bunsen burner. Some of the lab apparatus were redundant but some were needed.
Following the instructions, I measured and mixed the chemical solutions. Eventually, I had another chemical solution in a test tube.
It was time.
