chapter 6

* Drake's POV *

Something was missing, but I just didn't know what it was. I searched high up the bookshelves, and low down the carpet.

But, I just couldn't find it.

"Where could it be..." I walked into the room and hurriedly opened the first drawer under the messy table. Mysteriously underneath all the scraps of paper, there lay exactly what I was looking for.

A paintbrush.

A smirk flitted across my face as I strolled across the room to the canvas awaiting me. Finally, I had something to paint with.

I sat down on the wooden stool and faced the blank canvas in front of me. Then, I looked at the bleak scenery of buildings, then at the many tubes of colored paint, before finally resettling my gaze to the canvas again. What was I exactly going to paint?

Zoey's shrilly voice words rang through my mind as I recalled our conversation earlier in the day.

"...paint whatever you want to paint. Just make sure that whatever you paint will be in sync with what I will be painting!" she said.

"Well, what are you even painting?"

She looked back at me, vexed and deep in thought. "N-not going to tell you, it's a secret!"

"Then how am I supposed to be in sync with you, huh?"

"We've been friends for so long so you should have already some kind of telepathic bond with me in some way so I don't care, just be in sync!" she yelled back as she walked off, leaving me in utter confusion.

And so right now, I just didn't have a single clue as to what I was going to do with this blank canvas. I took out my phone and stared at the screen; it was already six o'clock. I pondered over the thought of choosing to go to the Tarynn's and Max's house, or to continuing staring into empty space, with the possibility of having a bolt of lightning strike my head to give me a fantastic idea on what to paint.

"Yup okay, I need my caramelized popcorn anyway..."

Taking some books and my stuff, I switched off all the lights of the empty art room and proceeded to walk to the car park to leave the school. Unlocking the car door, I tossed my books into the front seat next to the driver's seat before getting in.

~~~
I stepped out of the car, admiring the beautiful view of their mansion. A magnificent pool of blue splayed across the white exterior of the mansion, accompanied with dainty beach benches and a large umbrella casting over. There were little light bulbs lining and illuminating the pathway to the house. I gazed at the gazebo near the pool and smiled slightly. Ever since a young age, Tarynn always loved the look of beach resorts. I remember constantly begging her parents to get her a gazebo but they just never bothered to get her one, despite the fact that they could easily afford it, even at that time. It did disturb me, but I was happy to see that she had finally taken matters into her own hands and bought one because I didn't recall seeing a gazebo there the last time I had come to visit Max.
I stepped into the front porch and entered the house. All the lights were switched on and as soon as I had entered, Max had already noticed me. I couldn't see neither Tarynn nor Zoey though so I guessed that they were probably in another room.
"Oh hey Drake, can you just take this to Tarynn? She's in the kitchen." said Max as he passed me a huge cardboard box. "I'm going to help Zoey out with something."
Walking past me, he left for the stairs at my far left. I curiously peered at the box I was holding, before realising that it was tightly shut, sealed, and taped. Now what kind of national treasure did this box contain?
