"Charles.....you're a vampire?" I ask as I back away. Charles instantly stands rigid and his breathing stops. When his eyes catch mine, my heart starts to pound harder against my chest. When he takes a step towards me, my grip on the hammer tightens. His gaze instantly goes to my clenched hand. He holds up his hands and he says-

"Yes, I am a vampire. I will explain if you'll let me." After saying it he steps a few steps closer to me. As he takes one step forward I take one back. Until my back is against the powder blue wall and I hold up my hand as I say-

"Explain what, Charles? That you're a vampire and you're not really in trouble. That instead of people chasing you, you and your people are hunting me. I bet you get off on it. Pretending to be helpless so that good people try to help you and then you hunt and kill them, is that it?"

After I said it his eyes harden with anger and waves of heated rage are rolling off of his back. Both his fists and his jaw are clenching and opening. He starts walking towards me with so much strength behind it that it rattles the ground where I stand, but he is as silent as death. His gray-blue eyes have thin veins of bright red in them. When he's about a foot away from me he opens his mouth and his canines extend about three inches as he yells-

"You close-minded human, listen to me. If I was going to kill you then I wouldn't play mind tricks on you. I also wouldn't have stopped Thomas if I wanted you dead and I definitely don't get off on killing people and I really am in trouble." When I didn't say anything he took a deep breath and backed up a little bit. Then said in a more quiet voice-

"The vamp world is split into two halfs. One side kills humans and the other doesn't. People who want to move to the other side have to go through a trial called Kairalia. I'm doing the trial right now. I had to follow my maker when the vamp world split because of how old I was. Now that I'm old enough to do the trial. I had to go through with it because I don't want to be a monster. I don't want to kill people anymore. I don't want to scare people anymore." His voice starts breaking on the last sentences.

I looked in his eyes the whole time as he said this and with every word I saw nothing but the truth. I also saw the raw emotions shift through his eyes. In his reddened eyes I saw sadness, pain, and as he said, a monster. I saw hatred. The hatred wasn't directed towards me, but instead directed towards himself. He is a broken man, but he is also a truthful one. I will help the best as I can for tonight, but first I need to do something stupid and reckless. WHY DID I GET INTO THIS?
