A week later

My hair is soaked with sweat. My eyes are getting blurry with its salt. It's running down my nose in the August heat. The scorching sun is pounding against my skin in waves. The Inviaskin I'm wearing makes the heat even worse. My sweat is trapped inside of it staying on my skin and not falling off of me. It gives my flesh a glaze like effect under the sun. Every time I move a piece of my body it makes a sound of rubber squeaking. The pressure on my shoulder makes me even hotter.

Damn vamps they could have at least fixed their mess, but NNNNOOOO they leave it to the weak human. Anndddd of course I can't bitch about this to anyone. Man, why don't Mary and Dan just pay someone to fix their diner? It's not like they don't have the money, and if money was the problem for them, then me and Ashley would pay for it. I'm too lazy to be doing this and they're too old. Then this stupid Inviaskin tops it off. Is it really worth this heat to keep from injuring myself?

I walk through the front door, letting Mary into the diner. We stroll through the empty diner, passing where the broken cabinets are, and then to where the mostly repaired wall is. We carefully start setting the plank down, when she sneezes. Her end of the plank clatters against the black and white checkered floor. I slowly drag it over to where it needs to go and look at Mary.

She is short and plump with silver hair. It sticks up a foot from her head with its fizziness. Her deep set eyes are dark brown and twinkle with mischief. Her face it covered with light wrinkles, and even more so around her eyes, telling you she has had a happy life. Her dark brown skin has even darker brown freckles. Mary wears a thin, colorful blouse. The pattern is like tiny feathers or large scales. It's colors look almost smeared with lavender, orange, olive green, clover green, white, and black. Her pants are the color of dust and she pairs it with shiny black boots. She wears little jewelry. A simple black pearl wedding ring, a black pearl neckless, and a small pair of black pearl earrings.

"You all right Ma."

"Yes, Tempie, but check the time." I reach up and behind my right ear; pressing my Pleir technology. As it wakes up my vision becomes blue. There's a lovely beep, beep, beep, beep sound when white numbers pop up. They read 5:46 and then I turn it back off. I start walking out of diner when I hear Mary say in a loving tone

"Have a good day, my Tempie."

"Thank you Ma, have a good day yourself." I start jogging home to take a shower, change clothes, and take a Flowtax, (which is an automated taxi), to get to school.

1 hour and 30 minutes later

The classroom is white with no color and the seats are all black. The ceiling is 20ft high and the width is 100ft. Most of the students are in their seats. Our gray uniforms sure do add color to the room. There are only a hundred of us going to this class. Most of them have genetically altered hair or eyes, making them unnatural colors. Most of the girls have purple or blue hair and the boys are on the side of more green or pink hair. Half of the class has creepy glowing eyes that are any color and they are all watching me as I go to my seat.

I turn on my Plier as I sit in my seat. The blue light distracts me from the dirty looks that my tablemates are giving me. On my left is a pink hair boy named Brook who likes licking his part of the table, instead of paying attention to the lessons. On my left is a white haired girl named Cotton, who is always texting people in the middle of class about the people she's slept with. In front of me is a purple hair girl named Mint, who is already sleeping. Behind me is a blue haired boy, (I don't know his name), and he is high like he always is.
