Chapter 31-A Jolt from Joey’s Past.

I awoke almost instantly as I landed in a heap on a cold white floor.

I was on the other side of the portal.

It was only my second time where I’d been conscious upon entering a portal but it was always really strange to travel in one and it was even stranger that one had just appeared out of thin air like it did.

It was almost as if were meant for us.

Meant to suck us in and...

To kill us.

Andy…Where was he now? I vaguely remembered what he had shouted back to me just before I got sucked in.

I won’t leave you behind.

The right side of head throbbed. I reached up to touch it only to find blood coated the tips of my fingers.

How could I have been so stupid? After everything that happened, I knew that one day that nightmarish dream I had would happen. And now it seemed closer to reality.

Too close.

I sat up and hastily dusted myself off.

I wouldn’t let it happen. It just too horrible to see let alone live…

The atmosphere on this end of the portal was dead still. It was dark and the air was colder than that of the inside of a freezer.

Colder than Andy’s words a few weeks ago and yet now…

Everything seemed to have changed in just this one weekend.

The glowing of the box around my neck suddenly grew brighter until I could not look away from its condescending radiance. The box shook violently as a small blue orb floated up and out of it without even tearing through the shiny coating of the box.

The four blue and white petals of Emily’s rose suddenly floated up out of my pocket. They brushed against my face almost playfully and began to fly around my head brushing against my wound as they did.

I laughed.

There was no pain anymore.

They shook slightly almost as if they laughed along with me. The blue orb whistled and they abruptly flew to it and floated to attention in front of it.

After a few seconds, they flew around the orb circling it, picking up speed as they did.

They glowed brighter until I had to squint to shield my eyes from the light.

They had covered the blue orb, disguising it as a tinier version of Emily’s rose.

I smiled as I admired the swirling colours of blue and white around it.

The intricate patterns seemed to brighten even the dullest of surroundings.

I slowly reached out to touch it, to hold it…

“Samantha Hanson.” A voice hissed.

I froze.

The voice seemed to send an all too familiar chill through my entire body

The tiny rose seemed to panic.

Suddenly the dewdrop necklace that hung around my neck quickly swung open, the little rose flew inside of it, its glow fading too quickly and it shut in less than a second.

“You are incredibly small and yet you had such a temper when you killed my tail”

I stood up. Killed?
