Chapter 19-The Rose.

Mikey drove at what most would call a snails pace. He kept on talking and Joey couldn’t get a word in. Which was just as well, I didn’t want to have to answer to him anyway.

“I should really inform you about the war going on here but things have been quite mellow lately so I’ll tell you about it later.”, Mikey went on. He was always very animated and involved in whatever he was saying.

“Why not now?” I asked him with my usual curiosity ablaze. I glanced over at Joey who, although it was impossible, was still trying to get a word in. Mikey was talking non-stop which he did all the time, especially when he was excited. He suddenly brought the vehicle to a halt.

“Because we’ve arrived!” He cried excitedly as he stepped out of the vehicle. Joey and I followed. The air smelt damp and the meadow we were in was desolate yet lush. The grass felt cold and wet with dew between my bare toes. Mikey began to roll around in the grass like he was a dog.

“What’s with Captain Dork-O-Gold?” I heard someone wonder out-loud. I turned around and saw Edith. She was wearing a pair of jeans with a halter top that looked like it was made completely out of different sizes, shapes and shades of pink of flower petals that overlapped. She was like a fairy without wings.

“Edith?” Joey and I asked simultaneously. Sometimes it feels as if I really do read his mind which is theoretically impossible.

“Who else? I’ve been waiting for ages for you guys.” She responded.

She ran over to hug me. Her embrace was warm and she smelt as flowery as she looked. Over her shoulder I saw Joey walk over to Mikey, who stopped rolling on the grass and began to dance around on the grass. Joey slapped him lightly across the head.

Then again...who knows?

Maybe we do have half the same mind.

Mikey ceased dancing his crazy dance and slapped him back as I pulled away from Edith.

“You look amazing. Almost like a princess or something!” Edith said to my surprise. “Really?” I asked trying to hide my utterly obvious shock. If I was almost like a princess then maybe Prince Andeliah Lockhart will look past the actual fact that I’m not one.

“Definitely.”

I smiled at her and then turned around to see where Joey had got to.

He was standing a short distance behind me with a strange look on his face. I walked towards him and stood next to him but he didn’t seem to notice.

He was too busy muttering to something to himself.

“A princess…hmmm….princess.” was sort of what it sounded like.

I don’t know if it’s just me but Joey is perhaps plotting something and I don’t think it will work at all. (Although I’m not going to stop him.)

Mikey was now sitting cross-legged on the grass. He seemed to have calmed down a bit after his little episode earlier. The mist that surrounded the trees and flowers nearby began to thicken. Almost as if on cue, Mikey stood up and made his way to his usual place near Joey.

The dense fog began to spread over us.

I could feel the cold droplets that floated in the air as they brushed against my face. I shivered at the touch as an image of Andy making other girls shiver with a single touch from him flickered across my mind. I hurriedly shook it away. A faint buzzing noise seemed to echo in the immediate area.

“What now, Nosey?” I asked. Joey wore a sombre expression along with the long forgotten scorched shirt and ruined faded jeans.

“We wait.”
