"You nervous?" Natalie Prior asks me about my up and coming aptitude test today.

"Were you? For your test?" I ask her while slipping a dark grey pair of jeans on.

"No," she says, my face falls, "I was terrified." I let out a sigh that I didn't even know I was holding.

I grab a very loose fitting grey shirt and put it on. I find my shoes and put them on.

"Brianna! Are you ready yet?" my older brother, by a month, yells up to me.

"I'll be right down!" I yell back.

Natalie grabs my hands and says, "Your shaking, just breathe. It will all be okay. It's over faster than you think." I force a nod. She engulfs me in a hug.

"You always know the right thing to say Mrs. Prior," I mumble into her shoulder.

"We do live in Abnegation you know," she says like it's not obvious.

I chuckle and say, "I know, but somehow, I feel like you should be in like Amity or Erudite, not Abnegation."

"Well, we can't change that now. I haven't been sixteen for quite a while!" she says letting me from the hug.

"Come on! You're not that old!" I say playfully shoving her.

"Thanks Brianna, now you better head to school! Beatrice and the boys are waiting for you," she says pushing me out the door. I chuckle and head down the stairs.

I hit the bottom step and Brandon's boisterous voice sounds through the house, "FINALLY!! WE WERE WAITING FOR LIKE...EVER!!!"

Beatrice snorts and says, "Yeah right! Like ten minutes maybe!"

I grab my backpack off of one of the kitchen chairs and say, "Whatever, let's go!" They all nod and we set off.

We walk quickly to the school. We all put our bags in out lockers and go to check in. The boys get in a different line than Beatrice and I do.

"Finger," the woman at the table says once I get to the front of the line. I hold out my index finger. She pricks it, and pushes it onto a pad of paper. She scans it with a device, and says, "You are free to go."

I take a few steps behind her and wait for Beatrice.

The same thing happens to her. The woman pricks her finger, pushes it onto a pad of paper, scans it and tells her to go.

We quickly find Brandon and Caleb. We sit with them. A woman is reading off five names at a time. And taking the people who belong to the names to the rooms that we weren't allowed to go in, until today.

All of the sudden my name is called. I follow the woman into the dark hallway. She appoints me to a room, into which I am suppose to go.

I walk into the room and another woman is waiting for me.

"Take a seat," she says.

"Are you dauntless?" I hesitantly ask her. People aren't allowed to test teens from their faction.

"Yes," she says shortly, "My name is Tori." She hooks up electrodes to each of our foreheads. She explains how the test will work. She hands me a small glass of clear liquid.

"You ready?" she asks. I nod an quickly tip the liquid into my mouth and swallow.

After what seems like forever, I wake up. Tori is hovering over me.

"What?" I ask sitting upright.

"Your results were inconclusive," she says.

"We we're suppose to trust the test! The test is suppose to tell us where to go!" I half yell at her.

"The test, didn't work on you," she whispers, "They call it Divergent. You cannot tell anyone. Not even your parents."

"If they find out about you, they will not hesitate to kill you. I'll delete the footage and enter your results as Abenegation."

"What factions did I get?" I ask swinging my legs off the side of the chair.

"Candor was ruled out completely. Amity was rule out too. You can choose from Abnegation, your home faction, or choose to transfer to Erudite or Dauntless, your choice," she says, "I advise you to hide where they'll never think to find you."

All I do is nod.

"You can go home now, I'm sure you don't want to talk to anyone really. I'll say you got sick in the middle of the test and went home," she says.

"Thank you," I croak out.

"It's nothing, anything I can do to help," she says holding the back door for me.

I nod and set off toward home.
