"Be true to yourself."

A year has passed, and nothing has stayed truer than that. At least where Jingyu was concerned. He has asked himself a couple of times, if he and Weizhou met under different circumstances, other than Shangyin, what would have happened?

In everything, he had answered himself that he'd always choose Weizhou. Because thinking of a life without Weizhou would be a tragedy. He may never know what he missed if Weizhou didn't come into his life, and it would still be a tragedy.

So he's always thankful to have the chance to be with someone he loves, and who loves him back, never mind how they started, never mind the challenges their relationship brought them, never mind that they're still weathering a storm. If a tomorrow comes that would take Weizhou away from him with finality, Jingyu hopes he has enough memories of this love to last him for a lifetime.

It seemed futile to pour himself into a love that is for all intents and purposes unsustainable where their culture and professions are concerned. But telling Jingyu can't only makes him more adamant about sticking to his choices. But telling Jingyu can didn't mean he automatically reacts with reverse psychology - Weizhou will always be his choice, remember?

And so he sneaks it in, the ways he can show that there's this someone who's settled in his heart even if he's being kept from shouting it outright from the rooftops. He hopes the special person understood it, too, and finds Jingyu's love a treasure more than a burden. If he had let it slip who his baobei really is, blame it on a man in love with all the handsomeness and beauty encapsulated in Weizhou's being.

Jingyu thinks no other person will be it for him, in this lifetime or the next. He'll always be fascinated with the mix of cuteness and manliness Weizhou has, the emotions, thoughts and dreams that make him an artiste. How he found his soul's mate in Weizhou, someone who understood or tries to understand Jingyu in all of his joys, sorrows, and idiosyncrasies. He strives to also be good in his craft, so that he can confidently stand beside Weizhou, if only figuratively. He does what he can to give Weizhou no reason to throw him away.

And if, in the end, Weizhou would choose to let their love go? Jingyu thinks he'll cry, be devastated. But he hopes he can be strong enough to set Weizhou free - it wouldn't be right to keep the one he called love in the grips of selfishness, if Jingyu's love is more burden than joy. Yet he will always love Weizhou, and no matter how long, he will hope that Weizhou can come back to him.

Jingyu stares at himself on the mirror, preparing for another day taking the plane to work. Weizhou isn't beside him now, and he dons the necklace with the feather pendant that Weizhou gifted him not too long ago. He's not thinking about fans picking up on it and sailing Yuzhou ships.

For Jingyu, it was just a matter of appreciating who his heart belonged to.

A/N: It's our Jingyu's birthday today! I really hope he has a fun and memorable day today, same as it was last year - a year older, a year wiser, a year building memories. And in everything, I really hope he found it worthwhile and all that he could have hoped for (and more) happening in his life, never mind the roller coaster ride. :3 I'm just glad he went through it still staying strong, and still being true to himself - they are a dime a dozen, celebrities and persons who bring a certain strength of character living a life in the limelight. I couldn't step into his shoes, but if it were anybody but Jingyu, I'm not too sure where that person would be.
So here's to all the best birthday blessings baby whale! May you have a long and fruitful career ahead! With much love, health and wealth! Succeed in all your endeavors while staying true to that core personality and heart that has brought you this far. Don't ever be afraid to experience and discover what your career and life has to offer.
Me, I'm only thankful to have gotten to know you and Weizhou first as Gu Hai and Bai Luoyin, and ultimately just Huang Jingyu and Xu Weizhou, two remarkable individuals who are somehow even more remarkable together, even when apart (sorry, YuZhou is sort of a package deal for me so while this is a Jingyu birthday greet, I can't help but throw in his other half).
Jingyu fighting! <3 <3 <3
