Toby was sitting across from me as I picked and poked at the slop they called spaghetti on my tray. Dave was sitting next to Toby, and was laughing about something, but when I looked up to see what they were talking about, Toby was only looking at me with an admiring gaze. I felt a blush rise up to my cheeks and then to my ears before I looked away and grinned slightly.
Ever since what had happened the night of the party, Toby and I had been gentle and secretive with our feelings toward each other. He knew that I was fragile and could get hurt easily, so when we were alone somewhere, or on the roof, his voice would be soft and his hand would be holding mine with such gentleness. At times, I would get annoyed and angry because he would treat me like glass. On days like those he would give me my space.
"Why are you so quiet?" Dave asked as he shoved a meatball in his mouth. He stared right at me as he swallowed and took a gulp of water. "You haven't talked this whole time."
I shrugged before my fork played with the noodles of the spaghetti. "Just not really in the talkative mood, I guess."
Dave side-eyed Toby before he cleared his throat and stood up. "I should get going. The activities start soon." He winked at me before grabbing his tray and walking away, leaving me with Toby and the silence between us.
Toby was the first to speak. "Are you going to eat that?"
I shrugged. "Maybe."
Toby grinned slightly and stuck his fork into the hill of spaghetti before he got some noodles and took a bite. "Have you ever wondered what it's like to eat...real food?" He glanced at the window behind me before he looked back and met my eyes. "Like a burger and fries. Greasy, fast food. You know what I'm saying?"
I chuckled slightly. "Yeah, I know what you're saying."
He smirked before he stood up and took my hand. "Come on."
I stood up as well and gave him a weird look before I let him drag me out of he cafeteria and to our window. "Tomorrow, lets go on a date."
My eyes narrowed as I looked at him with confusion. "A date?"
He nodded and reached forward to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear. "We can go wherever you want, on one condition."
My eyes looked up to meet his and I grinned. "Yes?"
He reached his hand down to intertwine our fingers and then leaned in until our lips were barley touching. "We have to get cheeseburgers and fries."
A giggle escaped my lips before I turned my head and kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Deal."

It was midnight when a soft knock had been emitted on the door, and before I could even get out of bed to answer, the door had swung open and Toby was standing in the doorway with a bouquet of roses in his right hand.
"How did you..." I trailed off while I walked towards him.
He just shrugged. "I have my ways, you know that."
I grinned slightly before I took the bouquet from his hand and placed them on my dresser. "I'll put them in water later."
He grinned before he took my hand in his and intertwined our fingers, his eyes never leaving mine as he closed the door behind us and led me to our window. "Ladies first," he stated before he bowed, which caused me to chuckle lightly. The metal stairs had clanked under the weight of my steps, but I had no care in the world. I could make as much noise as I wanted; I could get in trouble if I wanted to, but it would all be worth it if that meant Toby would be by my side.
