The Old Sap

His eyes were hallowed like a shell

what his final thought was, no one could tell

He was never quite a winner in his hometown

Perhaps thats why he wore out his frown

From when he was younger to late in his age

He never abandoned that real awkward stage

When in life someone starts to bring you down

Most will eventually turn that around

But  not in his case, this terribly old man

He was the kind of guy who never had a plan

So after this sap took his great last fall

Nobody had much to say, nope not a thing at all

So can you guess the phrase his peers began to master?

What else other than "I feel bad for that sad, poor, cranky old bastard"
